Does a MacGyver score CD exist? I`d really like to have one if it does exist.

No, one does not exist. There is a fake CD but none is original score or by the show's composers.

It's really bad that no CD was ever released (of neither the series nor the fine film versions by Ken Harrison). I think MACGYVER is more popular here in Norway (and Northern Europe) than in the US.

NP: MUNICH (Williams)

Could be. In Finland it is very popular. I have already bought the first 2 seasons on DVD and the third will be released in about a month and is naturally a must buy!

IIRC the majority of the music was done by Dennis McCarthy. I was watching the scifi series V (4th&5th eps)and wondered at one stage that how the hell the tunes sound so familiar. Well, they were done by who else than Dennis McCarthy.

BTW, how do you like JW´s Munich (noted the NP)?

I like it very much. There are even hints of Williams' religious sound that I love to much. "Avner's Theme" is also lovely and there are some great atmospheric cues.

Back to MACGYVER, I know that McCarthy wrote most of the episode scores, but Harrison wrote at least one of the TV films that were made. And Edelman's theme (thankfully available on several compilations) is one of the most catchy TV themes ever composed.

There is a promo CD with Ken Harrison`s great egyptian score to the "Eye of Osiris" episode of MacGyver.

Thor, I have now been watching the Season 3 and you were correct, I did note at least episode scored by Ken Harrison. I admit that I liked the score a lot!

Yeah, Harrison's music seems more "polished" somehow. Not as run-of-the-mill as some of McCarthy's music occasionally is.

A question to those who know these things: what is holding up a soundtrack release?

Other then the fact that the series stopped about 15 years ago?

Geez I really can't think of anything. smile

the show is owned by PARAMOUNT....

Nuff Said....

Also another Composer on the series was none other then WILLIAM ROSS, who came in to the show after Dennis left the series.

Just grabbed season one on DVD and I've been enjoying it a lot.
The scores are really quite excellent. I was surprised to see it was Randy Edelman!
Damn that theme is catchy!

Is there still no official CD for this classic series?!?

Sadly, no. It's a shame, this was a good series with some fine work by really excellent composers. It's funny how an unassuming action show like this is such a pop culture legend. It's nice to hear it's still popular outside the states.

Perhaps nowadays (I don't think reruns are currently airing anywhere on American television, though I saw them as recently as just a few years ago), but it was pretty popular during it's original run. smile

Oh, as I said above, it's VERY popular in Norway. Everybody knows it, and it's part of my generation's TV upbringing.

I watch the reruns mostly for nostalgia now and can see "through" the silliness of it all, but back in the early 90's, I used to watch it when I got home from school, and it actually engaged me.

I also remember seeing a couple of the feature-length TV movies, one of them being about some Egyptian excavation or something, excellent music by frequent episode composer Ken Harrison.

I can't BELIEVE there's no soundtrack for this! It's gotta be the most catchy TV theme of all time! frown

My generation as well. It was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid, and like you, I can get past the silliness and still enjoy it. I even still have my Swiss Army knife that I got during the height of MACGYVER popularity. big grin

There were only two TV movies. The first was about MacGyver searching for Atlantis, and the second was a James Bond-esque plot involving international intrigue and ex-KGB agents. I enjoyed both, but prefered the second one a little more.

I don't recall much of the score since I haven't seen the show in awhile, but it definitely has one of my all-time favorite themes. I miss the days when TV shows had memorable themes.

Well, GoldsmithFan, if the four last numbers in your handle are your birthyear, I think we're the same generation. I was born in 1977. wink
