I am thinking about picking this one up, but I´d like to hear some opinions from my fellow film music madman-fans out there.

Thank you,

Philipp

It simply is one of Barry's very best jazz scores.
The theme itself is worth the price alone.

This brilliant music is definitely worth writing a little praise here. Hammett is one of my favorite and most played scores by John Barry, especially suitable for dark nighttime (such as now is here). Few scores create a mood as strong as this one does. It's simply a work of a craftsman who did (sad to use the past tense here) understand his job as only a handful of composers ever did (that's just my opinion of course).

A big thanks to Mr. Thaxton for producing the CD and to Mr. Southall for writing the liner notes. Excellent work !

Taken as a whole, I wouldn't say it is as good a stand-alone CD as, say, Body Heat (and its running time is padded-out with source cues). But the main and end titles, written for just clarniet and piano, are priceless, and truly among of Barry's best. The CD is worth it just for that theme.

Unfortunately the CD does not credit the soloists, but that's GOT to be Mike Lang on the piano.

Good review!

JB really excelled as a jazz composer. His jazzy, bluesy music smoothly incorporates his trademark melodic and harmonic stylings.
Just as good, he avoids the cliched riffs, and chord changes of much "film jazz'

check it out!

Yeah I was checking that link as well.

Hammet has a fantastic theme. One of the best Jazz themes I know of. It's a shame I know very few scores similar to this one.

It's now here:

http://www.musicfromthemovies.com/index5.php?option=com_content&view=article&id='%20.%20(4758)%20.%20'hammett

(You'll need to copy and paste - just clicking the link will cut the URL short)

However, in Music From the Movies' re-organization, all the writers seems to now be uncredited for their work. Which I don't like, but hey ho.

Cheers

A very nice, laid-back jazzy score with some subtle asian motives that has Barry stay clear of his trademark Bond ideas. I like it a lot.

IMDb's film credits for Hammett include:

Michael Lang .... musician: solo piano
Ronnie Lang .... musician: solo clarinet

When you listen to HAMMET, BODY HEAT, THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS from the 80's ,you can hear why JB was so well suited for THE INCREDIBLES.

wHAT WENT WRONG?!
I suspect Barry simply lost his 'mojo'.
Shame.

Too bad Prometheus didn't use this for their cover:

James

By the way, that's Drew Struzan's art.

It would be one weird looking cover.

This artwork should have been represented in the booklet somewhere though.
