A few years ago some friends and I at work were talking about actresses we found attractive for some mysterious reason--we couldn't say WHY we found them attractive, exactly, and we might even see why someone else might find them UN-attractive.
Well, we each came up with three, and one of my answers just came back to haunt me. Over on the Trek Yum thread someone mentioned Christine Baranski. I was afraid I was the only man who found this woman attractive.
I can't put my finger on WHY I find her attractive, but...I do.
OK, who's got some other "Unusual Yum" candidates? Women with a certain something that atractes you, though the reason might not be obvious at first?
Well, I'm the one who mentioned Christine Baranski. I think the better idea of this kind of category are the ones who are less fantasy figure sex symbol type and instead are more down-to-earth "real" types who maybe on one occasion or two have shown the ability to look great in something revealing but as a general rule you don't expect to ever see attired that way.
Best examples I can think of would be my aforementioned favorite Trek woman, Mariette Hartley and Gretchen Corbett from "Rockford Files". Gretchen generally specialized in playing the smart career woman Beth Davenport and doing it wonderfully, but showed a more daring side in one memorable scene of "Columbo", as well as donning Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman costume for one scene in a guest shot on that as a villainous Nazi.
Yeah, less "fantasy figure" women is what I mean. Women who are ones you really could conceivably meet in reality.
One thing most women can't seem to understand is that men dig a woman with a good sense of humor. I've known some very beautiful women, and I can tell you from personal experience, a woman who's got a brain and a sense of humor is a far more interesting companion than a great-looking airhead (which I've also known).
That fits this category. CB comes off as someone who would kick your ass if you stepped out of line and could take anything someone threw at her. That's very attractive.
I'm not a big Mariette Hartley fan, but I do see the attraction in her 70's roles especially. She is down-to-Earth, but that doesn't mean naive.

I've always had a thing for Allison Janney (late of The West Wing) because she's attractive, she's close to my age (late 40's) and SHE'S SMART! And until recently she was available! (Oh well, one could always hope!)
Also Nicola Walker on MI-5. She's attractive, but not in a hot sort of way. Just nice looking. But again, she's really BRAINY!
I just love my Kate Hudson. She swooned me away in ALMOST FAMOUS, nearly 5 years ago, and she is just stunningly beautiful and such a wonderful person.
Actually, I think "most women" realize two things: 1. Initial attraction may at first be based upon externals, but... 2) Lasting attraction really is based upon a good sense of humor and intelligence. I believe this is true for both men and women. Buffed-up male airheads do wear out their welcome.
I like Crystal Bernard from the television show Wings. My favorite non-unusual yum is Sheena Easton. I've seen her twice at The Colors of Christmas concerts a few years back.
Fran Drescher would indeed qualify as a most unusual Yum (and certainly not one of mine!)
I know, I know! What was funny was that when I said "My number three choice will surprise you," one of my friends said 'Fran Drescher." I asked how he knew and he said "She just fits that odd type you like."
I just find her attractive, and I can't quite figure out why.
I think most people here would consider it an "unusual yum" just for me to consider Jane Fonda on the yum list, even though physically there is nothing unusual about her general yumminess quality.
