Moonie, I hope you won't mind that I started another thread on this. It's just that I'm not sure too many people knew Gummy as Greg, and in an effort to get more people to sign, I've changed the title of the thread, and will continue to keep bumping it back up to the top.

Folks, this message book will be online for a whole year, and Gummy's sweet Marlene, as well as his family and friends, will have it as a keepsake for all time. There have been several new additions made the past day or so, and I am especially happy to see those from FSM members. Gummy had friends all over the world from here, and I think the family needs and deserves to know that.

Please, if you haven't already, take a moment to share your thoughts. There's even a picture of Gummy posted there now, and I'm sure there'll be more to follow.

Thanks for sharing...and for caring.

Cindy

I feel terrible about not having contributed so far, however I'm having trouble finding the words to express what I want to say. Everything happened so fast that it's been difficult to comprehend, much less make sense of it.

Anyway, I just thought I'd explain why my entry isn't in the book yet.

I know, Michael. It's hard. Like I said, it'll be up online for a year, so when the time is right for you, sweetie, I know you'll find the words. I wrote a long letter to Marlene over the weekend. It was extremely difficult, but it was something I needed to do. If anyone here wants to send something through the mail in the form of a card or written letter, please contact me through email and I'll give you the address. Again, my addy's in my profile. Thanks.

Thanks, CAT. I'm sure Marlene appreciated your letter very much.

Incidentally, here's the link to the Guestbook for those who don't already have it:

And thank you, Michael.

Perhaps I'm confusing things here....but did Gumdrops once have another handle? I keep thinking it was a name that sounded amusing. When Greg's actual picture was posted it seemed to remind me of another (?) poster who had a wonderfully funny photo/caricature kind of picture in his profile.

I am still stunned by such an unexpected and sad event happening to one of our own. Most of us post here nearly every day, we know each other in an interactive sort of way, and it truly is like a family losing one of its members.

I have also been extremely unsettled and saddened by a comment someone made on another earlier thread, saying that Gumdrops had been terribly lonely. Further comment had been that he was able to assuage part of that loneliness by finding so many friends on this board.

I think we all get momentarily lonely at one time or another, but I hope that if that kind of emotional loneliness takes over any of our lives, we will all know enough to get professional or familial help.

In a way, this board is an emotional resource, and occasionally people do reach out for help. It's important, I think, that we as listener/readers, keep a sharp eye out for those who might need buoying-up on a bad day, or even longer-term understanding, and do what we can, within reason and without privacy invasion. Sometimes a kind word or a positive reaction to a post may be all it takes.

I'm very happy that Gumdrops seems to have had so many eMail friends among us. It must have made each of your lives and Greg's so much richer.

Once again, my best thoughts are with his family and friends on this terrible, and terribly premature, loss.

Manders...

Gummy had many friends and activities in his life. His Marlene used the term "lonely" to describe how he felt about his love of film music until she got him a computer and he discovered places like this. All of a sudden he was surrounded with folks sharing the same kind of enthusiasm he had, and it opened up a whole new world (literally) of friends for him.

Don't know about you, but I sure don't have any hometown neighbors and friends who share my love and enthusiam, and it does tend to be a bit lonely at times...except for here.

That's all it was. He was truly a happy soul...probably the happiest I've ever known.

Cindy

Oh, and Gumdrops was ALWAYS Gumdrops, and never posted here under another name.

That's good to know! Thanks, CAT!

We're lucky, I guess, and have so many filmmusic friends---have for almost fifty years! Perhaps we could loan you some---but we must get them back after a few weeks! smile

Thanks CAT. I think for all of us, until the Internet came along, filmscores were a sort of solitary pursuit (with maybe the exception of the boys in the biz.)

I'm not the most expressive of folks, but filmscores do allow me a comfortable way to express, and I'm happy to share it with several people on this board, of which Sir Gummy was one. Though he's gone, I'm still glad to have others around who carry on Gummy's spirit and his love of film music.

When Urs graciously posted a more recent photo of Christian on the other side, I was inspired to bump this thread up again. Gummy's guestbook now contains some photos of Greg for those of you who may not have seen them yet.

I'm especially fond of the picture of Gummy with Steelers Hines Ward and Plaxico Burress (now on the New York Giants).

I miss my fellow Steelers fan, but I know he's out there cheering them on.

GO GUMMY!!!
