...scared the heck out of me as a child! Specifically, the version from 1968...

However, the Columbia Pictures Television logo provides a cheerful, nostalgic blast:

The Mark VII was a classic. I hated seeing the change in the 71-73 shows.

Here's another classic that's disappeared from reruns and DVD releases.

Is the Four-Star logo intact on The Big Valley DVDs?

EDIT: Got the correct one now.

I recall the Screen Gems logo, too.

Yes it is intact on the S2, V1 release. S1 they were still using the old Four Star logo from "Burke's Law" (albeit in color).

Edit: The one you were correcting wasn't being used on "Big Valley" at the time. I think that dates only from the last season (it would be on the Encore Westerns repeats I have on DVD-R).

I wish they'd kept the original theme music arrangement of S1 and S2 the whole run though.

I hadn't seen that version in decades and when I did, it took me back to my childhood.

Was there ever a Mark I through Mark VI? Or did Jack start at VII and if so, why?

I miss the 1970s/early '80s United Artists logo, the one with the rather dark foreboding music at the beginning as the logo slowly moves. One of my favorites. I think I've only seen it on one DVD, but can't remember which one it is now. I used to pop in my VHS of "Motel Hell" just to see/hear that opening logo. smile Sick, I know.

I like the Screen Gems "torch lady" logo and fanfare from the 1950's. Also the animated color "Sticks" logo.

My favorite TV logo (actually the fanfare underneath) is the MCA distribution logo that preceded all the pre-48 Paramount features on televison:

Is it the one with the piano beginning and then the explosion of orchestra at the end? That's a Joe Harnell production.

Yep, that's the one!

I always loved the ITC logo before UFO and Space: 1999 -- that's still one of the most powerful TV production company logos I've seen.

I remember another logo (late-70s at least?) where a guy is leaving his office and laughs as he walks down the hall, away from the camera. I want to say I always saw it at the end of TAXI.

And what was the production logo where the guy falls off the roof of a church? I recall it being at the end of many later episodes of GROWING PAINS, as well as a couple other sitcoms in the late-80s/ early-90s. Always thought it was an odd logo.

EDIT: I found it. What a name! No wonder I could never easily find it before.

I believe that was indeed TAXI where someone says "Good night, Mr. Walters", and he grumbles "mmm-hmmm" as he's walking down the hall. smile

One of my favorites is The Bob Newhart Show with the MTM logo at the end using Bob's "meow" voice instead of the kitten.

Ah! Okay, I do remember that one being attached to TAXI. I'd forgotten about it, but I recall it now. But I do remember a similar one where a guy laughs. Perhaps there were two versions of the logo that they alternated between using.

The one for Taxi was "John Charles Walters Productions" a fictitious name that the producers of the show drew off a sign they found one day.

The laughing one you're thinking of was "Night Court" which had a guy laughing over an image of the Chicago Skyline.

You're right. This is it: http://youtube.com/watch?v=U_vdLRtLxUU I guess I was mixing it up with the TAXI one. Thanks for helping clear it up. smile
