I love the album. I recently saw the film on the big screen - it's quite good, actually.

Yes, I am very fond of this score. Some great Americana. I just wish Montenegro had lived longer.

One of my favorites that has never been given the CD treatment. Hopefully, someday soon that will be rectified.

I was hoping that "Hurry Sundown" was to be included in the RCA Spain series of a while back, but no luck. I've treasured this score since I found the LP in a bargain bin 35 years ago. A great one-shot score from Montenegro. Nothing else he did comes close.

I thought it a shame that when he passed away they gave him credit for scores he covered (THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY; MAN FROM UNCLE) rather than his very real accomplishments on HURRY SUNDOWN, THE UNDEFEATED or VIVA MAX!

I bought this for a dollar 15 years ago and haven't spun it since. Now's the time...

and Maestro,

your sentiments are beyond reproach. Tho we've a general fondness for his spiffy, exuberant and infectious "House of Seven Joys" title entry (lyrics mercifully aside) for

Dino's Matt Helm swansong ... wink

I have had this album since it was released and it is a gem.
A CD release of this would be great at some time

I've always been very fond of the score and rather like the film when it first came out around 67ish? Not seen it for some years.

It was trashed by the critics at the time but audiences seemed to like it.

Like IN HARMS WAY, I seem to remember a play out for the first half, at the Intermission, rather than the usual play in to the second.

Micheal Caine had certainly improved on his American accent by the time of CIDER HOUSE RULES.

an underrated, overlooked gem.

I will disagree with you here. THE UNDEFEATED is a superb score; if you haven't heard it, get a copy. It is up there with the best western scores.

I too enjoy this score. I always felt parts of it had a touch of the Elmer Bernstein sound, like a cross between his Western scores, and some the hip-sounding stuff, like the BABY THE RAIN MUST FALL album.

A wonderful LP, I bought it when it first came out, love the music, thanks to a good pal I have a great sounding CDR. I asked Lukas K about releasing this some years ago and he said there was a problem with the licensing, but maybe the situation has changed since then? I'd love to see a CD release.

This may be one of those titles for which RCA retains the soundtrack rights in perpetuity.

We still don't have the CD, but at least Olive Films has released the film, first on DVD, and most recently on Blu-ray, in a set with two other Otto Preminger films.
