Now in their 80's, the Richard M. and Robert B. Sherman are honored with the National Medal of Arts.

They were a big part of the way I annoyed my parents in childhood, singing their songs over and over and over and over and over. I even remember getting a Chitty Chitty Bang Bang toy in a box of cereal.

The Shermans and Irwin Kostal created one of the great soundtracks of all time. And "Feed the Birds" is the emotional high point. The story the brothers tell of Walt calling them in every now and then and just saying "play it for me" brings goosebumps as much as the song itself.

I got to be very close with Richard, and he's a great guy, and still sharp as a tack.

I agree with Hains, I met him at the Varese bash and was SHOCKED he's in his 80's still very much with it and to be honest, he does NOT look his age at all. I was lucky enough to get him to sign my Mary Poppins and Bedknobs Broomstick! Super nice fellow.
