No. What is it?

No. What is it?

It's another one of the online social networking tools that have popped up over the last few years. Apparently designed to keep your firends informed of what you're up to.

I had someone ask me about it in a job interview. I guess they're trying to decide if they can make use of it in an educational setting.

Thor:

Twitter is like facebook except it's ONLY status updates. I don't see how it's very useful if you already use facebook.

The way I had it explained to me is "Facebook is people you USED to know, Twitter is people you WANT to know." It took me a while but I find it a lot more enjoyable than Facebook.

FYI, the Star Trek podcast got re-Tweeted all over the place the other day when it was launched. So it's a viable viral marketing tool when used properly. It just takes some getting used to, like all new programs.

Anybody who uses it and wants to follow me:

@jimnyc62

Anybody else use it?

I have one - but I use it more for a "random thought occured to me" list. Like something I'd need for a grocery store or wondering if Liam Neeson would play Qui-Gon in a Star Wars game.

I've tried it for a bit, but I simply don't get it, and probably never will. Why do I care what someone is doing? Why do they care what I'm doing? At least on Facebook, there are photo albums and chats, and in boxes and Wall photos that can be shared with many. Twitter just seems to be short statements about what someone is doing. So what? I really don't get the whole celebrity aspect of it, but that's just me.

No. What is it?

I keep seeing this word Twitter more and more and I wondered the same thing.

Thanks original poster for not explaining because apparently we are a few who did not know what it is.

You have a dirty mind. I think of twats, so I have an even dirtier one.

Twitter - I feel no urge to try twitter.

It's getting a bit goofy now, Twitter, Myspace, Facebook, soon we'll have like 20 different sites to stay in touch with people. I do not Twitter and won't.

Twitter. That word alone turns me off. Sounds like something that tweekers start to do after staying awake for 36 hours straight.

I don't really get the point of it. Okay, I know what Stephen Fry had for dinner last night and I know what Dr Mark Kermode thinks of the new Seth Rogen film a couple of days before he actually reviews it, but that aside I don't see what it's really for. Fascinating individuals and national treasure they may be, but Mr Fry's dietary choices are no concern of mine, and I'm prepared to wait till Friday for the Kermode reviews.

I told you to stop twittering with my tweeter, ya tweaker.

I use it - and I agree with you. I'm using it a lot less than I expected to.

A very close friend of mine uses hers WAY beyond human reasoning. In the span of 3 hours, she posted over 70 twitter posts. I'm honestly considering removing her from my twitter list because its such a constant stream of NOTHING.

I almost cringe at dredging up this post again, but has anyone broken down and started using Twitter? I know there are a couple of FSM'ers on there, because I've met 'em!

If so, feel free to add me to your follow list. @Jim_Lochner (I had to switch my user name.)
