I had a very nice three-letter correspondance with Goldsmith back in '69-'70, have seen him in concert in London in '75 and in Milwaukee in '91, but have never met him in the flesh. While in London for the above mentioned '75 Goldsmith "Filmharmonic" Concert at Royal Albert Hall, I had a chance meeting with John Williams, who IS (or was then) an extremely nice and accessible person. (Having introduced myself to JW while a friend assaulted Goldsmith for an autograph, I suddenly blanked out, faced with one of my cultural heroes!) And then there was my extremely strange dinner with Heinz Roemheld, who was retired and living with a sister in Milwaukee back in 1973. This was my closest brush with someone of celebrity--and an Oscar winner in the bargain.
