Hello!

I am interested in purchasing stuff like cd soundtracks, DVD'S, etc. from Amazon but for some reason even though the third party sellers I select do ship internationally, I cannot have my items shipped to Greece using Amazon's checkout system. This is very frustrating! frown I don't understand why that is since it seems that I can never purchase items from Amazon third party sellers who advertise on Amazon but only items sold directly from amazon.com. The cd soundtracks sold by amazon.com are almost always more expensive than the ones sold by some third party sellers and many times their selection is quite limited. What I usually do when I want a cd soundtrack bad enough is I contact the seller and ask if they could ship the item I am interested outside Amazon. Sometimes I get lucky but it's a pain to do that every time and it feels a bit degrading. I have contacted Amazon but they are useless and of no help. I keep going around in circles. Could anyone in this forum help me out please. Any advice? Am I doing something wrong? Does anyone from Greece or any other country have problems ordering from Amazon third party sellers or Amazon in general? Thanks in advance! By the way, I have been looking at this website on and off for some time now. I decided to join. Great forum! Sincerely, Sotiris

Welcome to the board Sotiris – the problem that you are experiencing when buying from third party sellers on Amazon is no really Amazon’s fault nor the third party seller. There is an option button when the seller sells an item that lets them choose to ship worldwide or in the US only. Many sellers do not want to sell outside the US because of possibility of lost mail. My personal work around to this is to find someone who can buy for you in the US and then forward it on to you. It’s a little hassle but if you want something bad enough it’s the way to go.

Hi Sotiri,
You do nothing wrong, I live in a Greek island and have the same problem you do. You answer your own questions: Either you contact the seller and politely ask if they ship in Greece (I do that on Amazon as well as eBay) or choose another seller that ships overseas.
Dimitris

Hello there and thank you for your greetings! Hello Dimitri! I understand about the option the third party sellers have for international shipping but I only order from third party sellers who specify international shipping. Why would any seller state in their description that they ship internationally and choose not to? I don't get it. The problem I am having with placing an order is with all the third party sellers who ship internationally and not just a selected few, and from all of Amazon's world websites and their third party sellers. Unfortunately I can only purchase stuff from amazon.com. I feel like I am being blackmailed to purchase only from amazon.com and nobody else. Just to experiment, I temporarily edited the country on my shipping address from Greece to Italy, Germany, etc. and having done that seems to be no problem. I can place my order. By the way, this is the message I get when I use my correct shipping address in Greece and are trying to place an order.

"We're sorry. This item can't be shipped to your selected destination. You may either change the shipping address or delete the item from your order by changing its quantity to 0 and clicking the update button below."

The third party seller could have forgotten to click the button that would allow you to buy the item. If they state that they will ship internationally then contact the seller to tell them of the problem. It's a 30 second fix for the seller and makes for a happy buyer like yourself.

The real problem is that amazon.com does not allow shipping of marketplace items to certain countries:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=537804

Greece is, along with my home country, Austria, among these countries. The situation is really annoying and amazon's "Rest assured that the list of countries covered by Marketplace Payments by Amazon will expand in the future." note (which has been there for years now!) is even more frustrating. It's particularly bad for out of print CDs which are often offered on amazon (or half.com) for cents. You then either have the option to find a friendly seller who helps you out (and there are plenty of them) or wait until the item you are looking for is listed on ebay...

Have you ever tried selling on Amazon?
It's not an option you set in general, it's something you set for each individual item (that I know of, at least for a normal non-business account), and it's very easy to forget to check the box.
They may also choose specific items -- for instance, only ones under a certain weight. I don't ship box sets internationally myself, though single CDs I try to always check it.

To use Marketplace Payments by Amazon to make a purchase from an independent seller, you must be located in a country covered by the Marketplace Payments by Amazon program. This coverage is steadily increasing and has already been extended to 29 countries. Please note: if your country is not yet covered, you cannot make a Marketplace purchase.

Until your country is covered by Marketplace Payments by Amazon, you may want to purchase the item directly from Amazon.com.

The following countries are currently covered by Marketplace Payments by Amazon: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales), and the United States (including U.S. protectorates).

Rest assured that the list of countries covered by Marketplace Payments by Amazon will expand in the future.

I wasn't aware of these country restrictions. Very interesting. Having residents of some countries in Europe being excluded from purchasing from Amazon's third party sellers where as other countries in Europe are not, is utterly ridiculous! It's Amazon's loss really.

The most ridiculous is that some countries (for example Italy and Brazil) are covered by Amazon Marketplace, when more and more sellers refuses shipping to these countries because of problems with lost packages and customs...

Actually, amazon.co.uk has a similar policy. I don't know if they allow shipments to Greece, but Austria is also not on their list. The same goes for amazon.fr, IRC.

As far as I know and from personal experience, no Amazon website anywhere ships items purchased from third party sellers to Greece.

Perhaps you could have a friend in the US receive the mail and then get it forwarded to you.

Or you could pay for a facility (like http://www.earthclassmail.com ) where you can ship mails to a local address and have them forwarded it to your country.

Thanks for the tip Alex but nothing has changed. The only seller I can order from is still amazon.com. No marketplace purchases.

I tried some FSM titles and MIDNITE MOVIES titles and the same dreaded message comes up.

'We're sorry. This item can't be shipped to your selected destination. You may either change the shipping address or delete the item from your order by changing its quantity to 0 and clicking the update button below.'

"The following countries are currently supported: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales), and the United States (including U.S. protectorates).

Yeah right!

Everything is explained here. A lot of double standard nonsense.

I had the same problem when shipping from Amazon to Russia. I was able to solve it with a middleman:
http://realbargain.wordpress.com/2011/02/21/avoid-amazon-shipping-restrictions-this-item-cannot-be-shipped-to-the-address-you-selected-and-we-are-not-able-to-ship-this-item-to-your-default-shipping-address/

If you want to take a look how much it costs, see the costs for 6 of my packages:
http://realbargain.wordpress.com/2011/01/31/some-samples-on-how-much-it-costs-to-send-packagesparcels-to-russia-using-shipito/
It should be slightly cheaper to ship to Greece.

I've been looking for middlemen for a long time. Needed a reliable company that can ship via USPS. I'm not sure about your shipping preferences though, you may prefer to use Fedex, UPS, DHL,... In my country I have less problems with USPS Express Mail.

Many sellers and shops don't ship overseas, and there are no alternative sellers. Middlemen help to solve this. The only problem I had was with a monutain bike, since it is heavy and oversized. It seems to be easier to buy it in a local shop.
