Universal Pictures have sent through artwork for a UK 2-Disc Special Edition DVD release of Steven Spielberg’s 1941. Steven Spielberg's comedy is set in the paranoid Hollywood community during World War Two, when Tinseltown braced itself for an imminent attack by the Japanese just three days after the attack on Pearl Harbour. A power cut and an enemy submarine sighting add to the panic. John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd and Nancy Allen star.

Expected to arrive on 28th December 2009, features are TBC but deleted scenes (8m 37s) and The Making of 1941 (102m 41s) were both recently passed by the BBFC so are likely to be included here.

No Blu Ray then John by the look of things?

Something I've wondered about "1941":

The music for some of the scenes which were put back into the movie for the longer version (on the laserdisc and DVD releases) are scored with hacked-up/re-edited bits of Williams' score from other scenes.

How were these scenes scored ORIGINALLY, when the movie had its notoriously unsuccessful previews (which necessitated a shortened version of the film being released theatrically in 1979)? With a temp track?

Had Williams completed his score for the picture when it had its first tests screenings? Is some of his music lost or still in a vault somewhere?

There's a terrific unmentionable for this score floating around, but I do hope the score gets an even MORE complete release someday if any such missing music exists and can be restored, both for a soundtrack release and perhaps a Blu-Ray of the film itself.

Doesn't look like it.

Unsurprisingly, I feel the exact opposite. Even the existing Varese release is starting to grate a bit at its 30-minute mark. The music is simply too bombastic to hold up much longer. I've had the boot once, and it's one of the worst presentations I've ever heard. I think I actually broke it in two before I threw it in the trash bin. If an expansion comes out, nice for the people who crave it. I personally won't go near it with a 10-feet pole.

Yes we know Thor.

Back to the DVD, I wonder if this has been remastered and finally presented anamorphic?

There are several b**ts.

I was referring to the one you DON'T want to throw in the trash.

I want to throw everything in the trash bin that isn't the Varese release! wink
