I stumbled on this title and found its description fascinating (A young girl marries a murderer and later, as a shady songstress in a nightclub, is forced to help him escape). The reviews of it is are not encouraging though.

I'm still interested though because the credits are stellar (Robert Siodmak, Herman Manciewics, based on Somerset Maugham, with Durbin, Gene Kelly and Gale Sondergaard), and Hans Salter got an Oscar nomination out of it.

Anybody seen it? I've never seen a Deanna Durbin picture, so I question if this is a good place to start.

A very good film. I believe it was inspired by Kelly's appearance on SUSPENSE.

Hans can be seen conducting Wagner's Liebstod in a concert scene early in the picture.

Not a typical Durbin picture, by any means, if you're looking to start exploring her work, but well worth it on its own.

Deanna Durbin...one of my mom's and her sisters' favorite actresses.

She always told me I was named for one of her favorite actresses (Donna Reed); perhaps I might have been a Deanna???????

Enjoy!

I bought my Mum the complete set of Deanna Durbin DVDs last Christmas, and we've been working our way through them, throughout the year.

We havn't gotten to "Christmas Holiday" yet, but, Mum has always said that this was her least favourite Deanna movie. Probably because it wasn't a typical Durbin film.
I believe this was reflected in the box office returns at the time?

We shall reserve judgement until it's been re-visited.

I just saw it on YouTube.

A bit overripe, even for a noir. Great song, though!
