Now that it's the 25th anniversary of the film, isn't it time to finally release the actual film tracks of this landmark Elfman score?

The old region 4 DVD has an isolated score.
I always thought the Varese CD was the film tracks.

I believe the Varese disc is of re-recordings of both scores, the original of both were conducted by Lennie Niehaus if I'm not mistaken.

Yes! The Varese cd had only about 20 minutes, a great 20 minutes, but there's a lot of fun music in that film. Listening to it, it's amazing that this was Elfman's first orchestral movie score. There are so many little themes and tunes and it fits the tone of the movie very well.

Yes. Yes it is. smile The isolated score on the DVD is nice but it would be great to get this on CD and I will be the first one to buy it.

Agreed. Original film tracks are needed, as well as the great outdoor mall "stroll" music when Pee-Wee locks up his bike. Varese is listening, right?

Is the suite from the first Darkened Theater album from the original tracks?

No, that's the same re-recording that was used for the Varese album.

Thanks. In that case, I'd be interested in the original tracks as well.

If ever was there a score I think fits a particular label, THIS ON matches La-La Land's to a T. I can easily see them put this out!

You and me both, brotha! Sadly, according to WB, Varese has the rights to release the "Original Soundtrack" should they choose to do so due to the other re-recording album they released (Much like The Right Stuff and North and South) So, hopefully, one day they shall!

He certainly conducted Back To School, but Pee-wee's Big Adventure doesn't credit anybody in that department.

Wasn't it Francesco De Masi that conducted the album tracks for Pee Wee?

I think John Coleman conducted the rerecording, but I don't have it in front of me.

I do think that Lennie Niehaus is credited in the movie, but I could be misremembering that too. I know that in interviews and on the commentary track, both Elfman and Bartek talk about how working with Niehaus really taught them a lot, and they wouldn't have been able to get through the score without him!

CindyLover is correct, no conductor is credited in the end crawl for PEE-WEE.

I'm not near my collection, but didn't De Masi conduct a Poledouris score? Making the Grade?

Yeah, he did conduct that. My memory might be playing tricks on me, but I'm pretty sure that Richard Kraft told a couple of us at an FSM gathering that he also conducted the Pee Wee / Back To School album.

Do you recall the circumstances behind why these scores would have been recorded in Italy? Some sort of musicians union strike?

I figured the guys at La-La had looked into Pee-Wee.

That's good to know about the rights and such, so I can keep saying, why won't someone release it, blah blah blah, now we know it's a Varese thingy.

I wonder how long they have the rights to release the score, I mean does that "contract" go forever or something? Interesting though, all this legal stuff!
