Every so often I come across a name I hadn't heard of before. Such as Vladimir Cosma (through a friend's recommendation of La Boum). What a massive filmography! Any fans like to point me to something do dip in to? Thanks.

I can highly recommend Le Jaguar (1996) which also is with 2 Bonus Track in the Box-Set
Vladimir Cosma: 40 Films, 40 Bandes Originales
Its a really beautiful extremley melodic symphonic score with interesting local music of the south
american set in Brazil. The first track (Ouverture) is an excellent piece.
In total you never can put Vladimir Cosma into one generic music genre as he changes his styles from movie to movie (beautifiul orchestral scores change with popstyle movie scores or even
songs scores as for La Boum).
In resume is Vladimir Cosma an extremley interesting composer.

I think the one thing that can be generally said about Cosma is that his film music is usually very easily accessible. My personal recommendation: L'AS DES AS (The Super Ace), right now unfortunately only available as a download.

Oh, and let me add that the 17 CD set mentioned and linked to above is far cheaper than you might expect, so don't ignore the link prematurely. smile And I believe it even includes previously unreleased tracks from LA BOUM.

This is the best place to access the music of Vladimir Cosma, with lossless downloads, sound samples:

http://www.qobuz.com/interprete/vladimir-cosma/telechargement-ecoute-albums

They have even started reissuing LPs, that have never seen a CD release, as lossless downloads.

Just visited this site. A true cornucopia of Cosma; looks like more than enough material for another box, maybe two.

What else did he do in the mode of L'Affaire Crazy Capo?

You can't go wrong with "Les Aventures De Rabbi Jacob."

Having already praised the incredibly low priced yet comprehensive Cosma 40 Bandes Originales box, let me now – that I have eventually received it 10 days ago – single out LES AVENTURES DE DAVID BALFOUR as an instantly catchy, highly melodic score.

I have started to play all 17 discs a couple of days ago and am now on the third round. While I found some of the "funny" scores included uninteresting first, I find myself enjoying the whole box more on repeated listens. However, not much love here for Cosma's biggest success ever, La Boum - it sounds a bit like a source music album. Those who are better versed on Cosma might be able to enlighten me. (OK, I have now re-read what's been said about it above. It probably served the movie which I never saw – which applies to virtually every score in this box wink – , but as a standalone album, I just don't like it.)

Oh, and I second Scoremix' recommendation of LE JAGUAR. At times, it remotely reminds me of Barry's Out of Africa.

I heard that it would include his "Belmondo scores" among others, so I guess the inclusion of L'AS DES AS is very likely. smile

If L'AS DES AS is in the 2nd box, hopefully it will be the complete lp, and not the truncated version which was available as part of the Cosma cd series a few years ago. Hopefully, Banzai, L'Animal, and the Asterix scores he did will also be in this forthcoming box. I'm looking forward to it already.

I hope the second Cosma box to come will contain the wonderful score for "La neige et le feu" (Snow and fire) - fingers crossed , it's near impossible to find the original Pomme Musique release for this one.
