I saw The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane the other day for the first time. (This is the odd little thriller from the 70s with Jodie Foster). I really enjoyed the score, including the moments when the music was super funky with a bit of wakka wakka guitar. However, I noticed in some reviews on imdb that some people think the score ruined the movie.
What do you think? Also, is it available on a legitmate release anywhere? I think there was a Japanese vinyl release.
Christian Gaubert is officially credited. I wonder if co-star Mort Shuman was musically involved? Gaubert worked on some of Shuman's french hit records (Papa Tango Charlie, Sorrow)
Someone on a blog posted a link to download the LP and it IS funky in that 70s way but I like it.
There was this piece in the film: "Piano Concerto No. 1 E-Minor" by Frédéric Chopin, performed by Claudio Arrau with London Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by Eliahu Inbal. This piece was part of the source music which alternated between Gaubert's score.
Mort Shuman wasn't involved in writing music for the film but probably had a hand in getting Gaubert the gig. I think the LP probably has more music than the actual film but there's quite a bit of repetition.

If the original tracks exist, they should be in the MGM vaults. But the Polydor LP (now controlled by Universal Music Group) could be a sticking point.
Would love to find out what the omissions on the CD are about.
From memory, the Polydor LP featured a fair amount of cue repetition (disguised by new track titles).

I own the LP and can confirm that nearly the half of the tracks are repeaded on the second side of the record. Doesent know if there wasnt enough original material to fill an full album. Even if the cues are great its not so satisfiing to hear the same cues twice.
Maybe the CD got some other or alternate cues on board?!
I`ll hope so.
I must say, that the cover of the japan LP is much more attractive than the cover of the new cd.
