All of these "Top" threads today have been fun, so I figured I'd do one for one of my other top favorites since Kurt Russell and Harrison Ford already have their own threads.

1) Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

2) Open Range

3) Dances with Wolves

4) Dragonfly

5) Waterworld

LOL! That scene always cracks me up. I was so used to seeing him play good guys, but I thought he made a great despicable bad guy in that. Plus, getting to see him and Kurt Russell share the screen was like a dream come true for me. If only Harrison Ford could have been in there with them, but that might have just blown my mind. big grin

LOL! I always found him kinda bland, so I can't recall the films I've seen him in.
He was great in "Hidden Figures" though.

Kevin Costner is not one of my favorite actors. His skill has improved as he has aged, but in his earlier days, he took roles that were beyond his abilities, like Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves. He fought with his old friend, director Kevin Reynolds, because he wanted Alan Rickman's screen presence diminished, as it was so evident that Rickman was stealing the picture from him.
That said, my list of five includes the five films that I think are not only excellent movies, but are perfect for Costner's talent and abilities. The Untouchables is one of the best films Costner has ever appeared in, however, his acting is the weakest attribute in the movie.
I think these five are "Perfect Costner Films":

FANDANGO (1985)
FIELD OF DREAMS (1989)
A PERFECT WORLD (1993)
WYATT EARP (1994)
THE WAR (1994)

I wouldn't say that Kevin Costner is a favourite actor of mine ... I think I'm past the age at which I try to watch all films by select actors ... but I've acknowledged to myself and others that many of my favourite films over the last 25-30 years feature ... Kevin Costner.

Despite some issues, I still think Dances with Wolves (1990) is my favourite film ... can it really be 26/7 years old?

I consider Open Range (2003) to be the best Western (perhaps: film) of this century ... I'm almost frightened to watch it again in case I don't enjoy it as much.

One of the most moving films I've seen (almost on a par with It's a Wonderful Life (1946)) is Field of Dreams (1989)

A lovely movie: Message in a Bottle (1999) ...

I thoroughly enjoyed No Way Out (1987) and The Bodyguard (1992) but have disposed of both DVDs so perhaps I don't expect to watch either again

And although this is strictly #7, I'll include Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991) ... totally daft but such good fun!

I've also enjoyed JFK (1991) ... not sure how true to life it is ... and I was sufficiently involved in both The War (1994) and The Guardian (2006) to stick with them.

And how could I overlook Tin Cup (1996) with the gorgeous Rene Russo ...?

Yeh, I can pick 5 but there has to be some flexibility!

A great actor ... certainly, easily, one of the best.

Mitch
