Funny thing.

My own computer - which stored my entire collection of 1000 CD's in iTunes format - is sent to repair, so I don't have access to it (and there's no room for the backup on my brother's laptop which I'm using in its stead). And Spotify just ceazed their free, unlimited service. And the alternative streaming services, like grooveshark, musicme.com, last.fm or even youtube are really bad ways to listen to music - issues with sound quality, interface, selection, breaks etc.

SO.....I've (literally) blown the dust off my CD's and started playing them again! They've really been nothing but a piece of furniture for the last year or two.

Weird.

It's cumbersome, because I have to get up to change CD's and adjust volume etc., but it reminds me that CD sound quality is still much better than mp3's.

Anyone else playing their CD's regularly?

Of course. Playing one now.

I can't remember that last time I spun a CD.

That only means that you're doing it wrong. Rip at a higher bitrate and you won't notice a difference.

I usually play one in the car, sometimes at home. Most of the time it's on the computer, though.

I do. I don't store any music on my computer. In fact, I've recently got a new stylus and have been playing vinyl all afternoon...

Don`t like even de concept of preffering to play a ripped version of one of my cds, or any for that matter. I buy them to use them.

Could be. When I get a new CD, I usually just import it into my iTunes without making any changes.

I still play my CD's - especially playing them in my Bose Wave System and in my car CD Player...:-)

CDs are all I play. I've never considered anything else.

I have everything in my iPod, and a limited selection of favorites on my iPhone. The CD player in my car has a USB jack, so when I'm driving I literally have my entire collection at my fingertips. Likewise, if I'm at the library or out for a walk, I rely on these devices. But if I'm at home, I play my CDs.

This. I play CDs in my car, only because there's no auxiliary input I can plug into my iPod, but it's the iPod everywhere else.

The default settings in Itunes - especially if you've been using iTunes for many years and it still features the original settings from when you first installed it - are very low. I'd look into your settings and amp up the bitrate to at least 256kbps.

The only CDs I play are in my car, but only when I'm driving short distances, otherwise I listen to my iPod while driving, so I go through the CDs very slowly. Danny Elfman's Music For A Darkened Theater Vol. 2 has been in my car CD player for the past month at least. If I'm making a quick run to the store, I'll just leave my iPod at home and turn on the crazy ElfMan.

Not as much as I play the ripped files obviously, but now and again I'll pick out a cd and put it in the cd player while I'm working at something.

I have a few selected CDs on my work laptop - stuff that is good for concentrating on nonverbal work like Photoshop. But... for every minute of quality listening time, it's CD all the way. Standing in front of the CD rack, browsing through the titles, all that is part of enjoying music for me and doesn't feel cumbersome at all.

I forgot to say.

There's been ONE exception over the last few years where I've played CD's: When I'm cleaning my apartment! Mainly because I then put my laptop away to clean the table etc. I then usually play some of my uptempo rock or pop CD's, or some hardhitting electronica to get the work done! smile

Not me.

I either listen to ripped copies on the computer with the headphones or stream the files over to my stereo/speakers via my squeezebox.

Far more convenient and the CD's stay in mint condition.
