Here's a dapper Liberace all decked out on the evening of the 54th Annual Academy Awards.
He with the help of "Mr. Conti" and the orchestra, played the nominated scores on his piano.
Here is the Audio of Liberace's Oscar Overture of Nominees from that night and announcement of the Winner:

Which would you have picked as Best Original Score for that year?
Composers up that year were Vangelis, Dave Grusin, Alex North, Randy Newman & John Williams.
The scores up for Best Original Score were:
CHARIOTS OF FIRE
ON GOLDEN POND
DRAGONSLAYER
RAGTIME
RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK

.....sporting one of the earliest of his terrible facelifts.
(Sadly, in his final years he barely looked like himself anymore.)

Liberace couldn't do much with Dragonslayer, heh? Made it sound like Snidely Whiplash music.
I remember rooting for Randy Newman at the time.
Fine with Vangelis win, though.
Although, was he too busy to show up? Every knew he was going to win the damn thing.

I, too, remember this being a very poor decision on someone's part.

Are we talking about Liberace's outfit here, or the scores?
For me CHARIOT'S OF FIRE had that hit Main Theme and that's about it.
John Williams really gave us a great score for RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK
and I liked Dave Grusin's ON GOLDEN POND as well, so if I had to pick for Best Original Score for a motion picture, I'd give it to Johnny and RAIDERS.
What would you have picked as the Best Original Score?
