Warner Bros. and HBO have announced that they will bring The Cannonball Run to Blu-ray on November 8th. The early 80's comedy stars Burt Reynolds as a down and out racecar driver who participates in a rowdy cross country road race.
The Golden Harvest release featured an ensemble cast including Dom DeLuise, Roger Moore, Farrah Fawcett, Jackie Chan, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and Terry Bradshaw. A sequel, Cannonball Run II was made three years later in 1984.
Technical specs and a complete listing of special features have yet to be determined, but the release will include audio commentary with director Hal Needham (Smokey and the Bandit) and producer Albert S. Ruddy.
Pre-orders are now up on Amazon with a SRP of $14.98 and a sale price of $10.49.
Of all the Burt Reynolds films that do not even need a VHS release, "Cannonball run" is slugging it out with "Smokey" for second place, first place going to "Hooper".
"Malone" YES, "Sharkey's machine" yes but those smash 'n crash barnacles, no.
