Apologies if this has already been mentioned elsewhere, but just randomly searching iTunes, I found this book on iBooks but can only find the Amazon link to share here...

http://www.amazon.com/Goldsmith-Scoring-American-Movies-ebook/dp/B00AGOD8JK

It was added Dec 1st this year & translated from Italian. Cartainly looks intersting, has anybody seen or read it?

Cheers

Dave

Thanks for the heads-up, Dave. Unfortunately, the Amazon page on the book lists it as "not currently available."

I have never heard of this Dave until now. Thanks for posting about it here. I think I'll have to download it to my Kindel once it's available and give it a read.

Thank you! That seams really interesting.
What does Kindle Edition mean?

An Amazon Kindle edition is an e-book in their own format created for use on the Kindle e-book readers. Generally these work quite well, but you have to have that reader (or some sort of software to convert the Kindle format to a more generic one).

It's an e-book sold from Amazon that can be read on a Kindle e-reader or an iPad/iPod/iPhone with the Kindle app.

Whoops, already answered!

Wow, incredibly exciting. I hope this actually becomes purchasable soon.

While checking those links, I noticed that Joe Caps' Mancini book IS available from both the Nook and Kindle stores! So that's something for me to get in the meantime.

Ok, thanks for the replies.
Why on earth they release a book ONLY on a specific format which is not widespread? (or maybe I missed something and all have kindle?)

E-books are very widespread and the way of the future (here now) whether everyone likes it or not. Taking Amazon as an example, they now sell more e-books than physical books and books are what started them in business.

Whether someone prefers e-books, a physical book or both, the one thing that is great about the e-book is that it lets "boutique" and less commercially viable books make it to the market that might not be able to do so if a publisher and a print run is required. Same thing for independent musicians and bands who sell their music electronically because they could never get a contract and sales distribution with one of the big record companies, or perps even one of the smaller ones. They also tend to see more of the profits with self publication and are able to reach their small, but appreciative audience.

I think this book on Goldsmith falls into this kind of category and without e-book publhsing, it would probably never make it into print and find its way to those few who would be interested in reading it.

Anyone have info on the book by Goldsmith's daughter? This has been rumored for awhile now but don't think it has been published.

It's not happening, at least not according to some of the old threads about it and a lengthy post by Lukas.

Well, I hope it was..
We can find general information about Goldsmith, his relationships with directors etc. etc., but in-debth musicological analyses for any film composer are only counted in the fingers of one hand. (ok maybe two hands)

from the look of it, it sounds like a book addressed to the general public though..
