YOR is not big fan of director Guillermo Del Toro, but (almost) all of his movies had great composers doing the score.

But now he hired "Generic-Zimmer-Clone #127" do score "Pacific Rim"!

What is wrong with Del Toro?

Pans Labyrinth is one of the best films of the past decade!

Great score, too.

Even though I'm not a fan of Djawadi, and I greatly miss Beltrami's scores in Guillermo del Toro's films, I'd argue that a Djawadi score is exactly what Pacific Rim needs:

there are bad MV scores, and there are guilty pleasure MV scores. Djawadi did a good job on Clash of the Titans, providing a fun guilty pleasure score. I bet this is what got him the assignment on Pacific Rim.

Nothing wrong with Del Toro. He continues to make excellent films. I like what I've seen of PACIFIC RIM...a good, old-fashioned monster romp.

As for Djawadi; why not wait untill the film is here before one judges? I realize that is a preposterous request here at FSM, but it's common sense, really. I like what Djawadi does on GAME OF THRONES. I'm not terribly familiar with him otherwise.

It is not fair to answer a thread from one that is on ignore list, is it?

Not fair at all.

But fake Thor is just like that.

Booo!

I'm also not really familiar with Djawadi, but the film itself doesn't look at all interesting to me. (Partially because I don't care for Del Toro and partially because I've never really been a fan of these kinds of giant monster movies.)

My brother and I have been joking that Del Toro must have stumbled across a bizarre double feature of Godzilla and Robot Jox late one night and went, "Ah-ha! I have an idea for my next film!" LOL!

Del Toro probably felt that it wan't worth investing in a quality composer given that the music will most likely be drowned out by the sound effects.

As a Del Toro fan, I look forward to the film.

How can you not like giant monster movies, Michael? They kick ass!

(although, to be fair, I've never been that big a fan of the old Japanese GODZILLA films).

I don't mind the original 1954 Godzilla, and I thought Cloverfield was (mostly) entertaining. But in general, Kaiju is just a genre I never got into.

I am kind of curious to see how this does, though, as this is a type of movie that usually seems to not play that well in the US but does bang-up business in Japan.

Moderator Norman Bates: Thor should not be allowed to post on YOR's threads, since he puts YOR on his ignore list.

Please, take steps.

Does YOR get less mad at Djawadi's music to Game of Thrones? Regarding Pacific Rim, this is one of those films where Goldsmith's passing really stings. I won't criticize it till I've heard it, though.

Look at the subject of the film and you have your answer. Birds of a feather flock together.

Good points! Beautiful heroic tracks in COTT such as "There Is A God In You" and "Perseus" show that Djawadi is quite capable of providing a fitting score to "Guillermo del Toro's eagerly-anticipated monster movie".

We get to eat our popcorn, watch a del Toro monster epic, and potentially get some catchy uplifting themes in the balance.

BTW, the latest trailer looks great!

CLASH OF THE TITANS is great! Yor is a big poopy-head! :-)
Looking forward to what he does with PACIFIC RIM.

Game of Thrones music is quite generic.

YOR is always wondering what a real composer would create with such good material...
