Is there are marked difference in sound quality (not content) between the two releases? I'm looking at picking up either version but if the earlier MAF from the 90's sounds really bad will rather get the SC.
I missed out on the limited edition so am very pleased they've repressed this. I'm pretty sure they said the content of the discs is identical to the Special Collection release.
Bravo to Intrada for not trying to fleece owners of the original set for a double-dip based on a semi-quaver of additional music or a minor tweak to the master.

I actually meant the older single disc MAF, not the new issue (have edited my original post to make it clearer).
In 1988 Intrada released an expanded version of this score on CD as part of their short-lived 'Film Music Treasury Series'. Len Engle and Goldsmith remixed the score from the original multi-tracks and Goldsmith made various edits for that album. That album contains various amounts of signal processing available at the time to help clean up the tracks.
Then in 2006 Engle remixed it from scratch again. The sound is much improved and the tracks are presented as they were recorded for the extended cut of the film. The 2-CD set contains that newer mix/sequence Oddly, the difference in running times is only some 2-3 min.
