I prefer the 1-disc version, too. It's where I heard Toru Takemitsu for the very first time. For years I've been infatuated with that piece, and I've always kept my eye out for the original DG CD. I managed to buy a decent vinyl copy a couple of years ago, but I've had no luck getting the CD so far. I thought they would include more of his piece when they put out the 2-disc set. But no, they couldn't be bothered to put on his track AT ALL. They needed to make room for "Aquarius", I guess. I never did a really close comparison, but it seemed to me that the selections that were ported over from the old version were simply longer excerpts from those pieces, or were different recordings. A few of them were not the versions I grew so fond of from the first edition, so I hardly ever play it. I'd be guessing, but maybe the disc's producers just wanted to provide selections that had upgraded sound quality.
