"Hans Zimmer’s let’s-test-those-subwoofers score evokes Christopher Nolan."
Oh, dear, here we go again!
I got a headeache just by reading that...
I noticed that you neglected to mention (or read) that the critic compares the sound of the score to Maurice Jarre's work on Lawrence of Arabia and Gyorgi Ligeti's pieces from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Par for the course for much of the "Zimmer Derangement Syndrome" that this board is notorious for.

Yes, we all know that Zimmer often steals from other composers, specially Ennio Morricone.
i have always liked the book. The David Lynch movie i did not like. The TV series was okay but there were subtleties that were missing. But I guess the Dune movie l would like to see is impossible. Let's see what this one will be like.
I still have very high hopes for the Sketchbook, OST, and Movie; but the first cue is bringing back flashbacks of Zimmer's The Amazing Spiderman 2 for me. !
I'm getting a real strong Virgin-era Tangerine Dream vibe from this. Oy vey, is it possible that Zimmer has only just recently discovered them?
Zimmer spoke about Tangerine Dreams long time ago. He was asked if a non-melodic score can be a great listening experience out side of the film and he used Tangerine Dream as an example of music that can be that.
Okay, so I guess it's only recently that he began lifting from them.
(Of course, I could be wrong and he may have been lifting from them for a long time now. I wouldn't know for sure--I certainly don't follow his career that intently these days.)
