20.98 USD on hdtracks.com for 192/24

I'm beginning to wonder if 7Digital UK are taking advantage of the closing of the hdtracks UK site.

Sounds absolutely spectacular. Just goes to show how poor the mix of the original CD was, and how much of the music was buried in the mix of the film. You can actually hear the orchestration. Great stuff.

I was going to hold off buying this but at this "Nice Price" (in the US) I ordered it immediately.
I'll be playing it when I commute to work today.

This is not one of the scores I have memorized so I'm not having any "Ahhh I finally get to hear THIS part" moments.

But this is just fun! And the end of Chewie Untamed is still a favorite. His arrangement of the Imperial March is so delightfully 1930's.

Funny thing, I was listening to Ben's Death and TIE Fighter Attack the other day and found myself wondering "Hey, where are the drums? Oh yeah, Powell."

I'm up to Walk to Dryden's. This is the best part of my morning.

Powell posted this on Instagram and Facebook:

Yeah, I mean 20 bucks for this is a great price. I don't get the "CD only" people on this one... If it were pressed CDs, it would easily cost 30-35 bucks, the quality wouldn't be as good, and you'd have to wait for it.

I bought it last night for 16 bucks (I had a discount code) and was listening 10 minutes later. I bought it not out of a burning desire to hear the entire score (although I like and am happy to have it), but because I want this to become a trend and I'd love for Disney to do this with more of their scores in the future.

30.49 GBP for the high resolution FLAC download in the U.K. Ouch.

I'll see if i can find a way to order through US HDTracks as unfortunately there's no way I can support this release at that price. I see Qobuz has the CD quality version at £20.99 which is still higher than the US Hi-Res version!

All hail the digital-only future.

ok, So those in the UK can purchase from US HDTracks quite easily. Last time I used them years ago, they used your IP Location to block you. That seems to have gone.

So from there with the 20% Discount code they have at the moment, the HD version cost me half of what the UK platforms are asking. So brought and supported. More please Disney - but sort out your UK pricing.

Purchased this morning. Loving this!

This album is made up of more complete musical suites than were previously available. Of special note:
- "Empire Recruitment" is the major key Imperial March heard in the Correllia Imperial recruitment office. Nice to have it;
- "Chicken in the Pot" is the version as heard in the film with the bass-baritone alien;
- "Super Extra Deluxe End Credits Suite" features the Star Wars theme as heard in the film.

Highly recommended!

I have to imagine this is the work of people who owned the international distribution rights from before the digital age, milking cash out of a job that no longer exists.

Forgot to add that I'm listening to it now and enjoying it immensely.

So if I wanted to just keep the OST tracks which are different to those in the Deluxe version - what ones would they be?

Adventures of Han obviously, but what else ?

So if I wanted to just keep the OST tracks which are different to those in the Deluxe version - what ones would they be?

Adventures of Han obviously, but what else ?

There are 4 things on the OST that are not on the DE

  • The last 18 seconds of "Marauders Arrive" is slightly different than the last 18 seconds of "Deluxe Train Heist"
  • "Chicken In The Pot" features Baraka May's vocals only; Here it is a duet between Baraka May and Reid Bruton
  • "Good Thing You Were Listening", from 1:03-end, is 7M44B Alt Qi'Ra Departs, a revised ending of 7M44A-B Beckett Departs that did not get used in the film.  Beckett Departs is heard in its entirety in the DE track "Maul's Call / Parting Ways" from 2:02-3:39, and Qi'Ra Departs is an unused replacement for the part from 2:39-3:39
  • "The Adventures of Han" is not on the DE at all

    That's is, apart from of course the fact that the entire OST is a completely different mix than the DE.

    My GOODNESS this expansion sounds incredible! My living room is shaking as a write this. The choir seems much more upfront than the cd mix. Great score, naturally, coming from John Powell.

    Seriously, what are they doing to our CDs to drain all the punch out of them? And it's not just the loudness wars, there's more to it than that.

    I hated the movie and one of the many reasons was the music. It kept pulling me out of the story. So until recently I was convinced Powell's score was horrible. Then I decided to listen to it now I forgot most of movie. I'm blown away! This is one of the most epic adventure scores I've ever heard!
    The only explanation I have for hating it in the film is either because it was mixed and edited poorly or the lack of relate-ability of the characters and events made it sound like it was trying too hard to emulate something that wasn't there.
