Despite the super-obvious synthwave vibe, the score itself sounds mostly orchestral! It's fun and ridiculous in all the right ways! I'll reserve further judgment for the music as heard in the film itself, but I'm legitimately excited for this one.
I don't know about the rest but this one track is very enjoyable. I love how the synth part is built in between the orchestral parts. Hoping the rest of the score is good as well.
Just listened to "Arthur", the opening score track. I sure got caught by surprise by that one. Wasn't expecting the direction and sound palette I heard - especially not from RCP. It is amazing. Cool blend of orchestra, electronics, choir and soundscapes. Stylistically speaking, it seems like the DC counterpart to Mothersbaugh's score for "Thor Ragnarok".
The synths really make it sound like a "low budget" score. It's a bit sterile. Could've been epic with a full orchestra.
For some reason it very much reminds me of the sound aesthetic of Pearl Harbor, like a throwback to the harmonies and orchestration of that older turn-of-the-millennium Zimmer sound. The zoomy synths certainly say "fish man leaping from the water" but where Ragnarok owned the synth throwback sound (despite being married to its temp track) and used it to say Space! and SciFi! and Fun!, this one, like Batman v Superman, seems to being trying to do that angsty "synths used seriously" sound, albeit an upbeat version and from twenty years ago? Strange.
The chord change at :48 reminds me of the one in The Goonies theme... which is mighty sweet. Sounds like RGW captured the reluctant king's demeanor through the moody synths. Looking forward to the film and score (I finally get some friggin sharks with friggin laser beams attached to their friggin bodies! Suck it, Jurassic World, The Meg, Godzilla, and Kong: Skull Island!), but I've got to see Spider-Verse first.
Jesus, I can't make heads or tails, your guyses(haha) comments are all over the damn place. Hopefully your not hearing what you WANT to hear & this isn't the usual RC slashy heavy chord sameness everything has now. These remarks paint something different which is probably too good to be real. Glad y'all seem to like it, guess time will tell....
Here's what the director says about who/what inspired the score:
"Down to the musical score, I wanted to- my inspiration was Jean-Michel Jarre, Giorgio Moroder. So, very sort of '80s sort of electronica. And Vangelis, of course, with what they did on Blade Runner. So, I really wanted that kind of flavor."

For the sake of simplicity, I don't count any Gregson-Williams to be part of RCP. Apparently, it will take time to find a CD for this.

Got the cheap 80's synth sound down. The Vangelis flavor? Not even close!
