I've got over 100 cds of their works, not counting the unmentionables that they released themselves. Close to 300 concert recordings, plus lps. I'm more into the Christopher Franke years and most of the works up until 1996. Had not found anything I liked until this recent lineup that seems to have recaptured the halcyon days. Your mileage may vary wink

I am trying to find a live version of Lifted Veil. I can't seem to track down a recorded concert where they played this. That saxophone in the last minute is really cool. It's got that cheesy feel good romantic vibe. I'm interested to hear how it sounds live.

And Tom Maguire, thanks for sharing the Rockoon love. I know it's an early 90s work but it sounds like it belongs in the former decade.

I'm going to check out their score to The Soldier.

The Soldier is a great companion score to Thief. Similar sound but much darker.

I need to check it out! Thanks for the suggestion!

Been a huge TD fan since around 1980. I finally had the chance to see them a few years back when they played the Moogfest about 2 hours from me - but between the festival ticket prices ( way too high since I'd be going to one show only ) and my wife not wanting me to go alone but not going with me....i gave up and didn't go. It was Froese's last tour , of course.

roll eyes

Diamond Diary is my favorite TD track, their signature track in my opinion. Tangram Parts 1 & 2.
Love On A Real Train.
The opening track from the Poland album. No Man's Land. Crystal Voice from Firestarter. Thru Metamorphic Rocks. Rubycon. Phaedra.

Those are the first ones off the top of my head when thinking about favorites.

Diamond Diary is in my top three by them. I love the score to Thief.

Funny enough, in the 80s, whenever City TV (a local Toronto station) would have technical issues, they would play Scrap Yard by Tangerine Dream and for years I'd wondered where that music came from. Then my dad bought my the soundtrack to Thief in 1984 on LP and I was elated when I discovered it was from that score. I still love that track.

I really recommend Rockoon for anyone who loves that 70s/80s sound.

LOL

That is one controversial statement

Well, I'm standing by it lol. I will face the firing squad if I have to. I actually really like the album. When I do play it, I usually give it two listens in a row. I'm playing Lifted Veil right now.

Hey, I like Rockoon too, especially the first two and last two tracks. But I think it has got zero in common with 70s TD.

There mondo 10 disc release is actually available on Spotify to listen to. Pretty cool to hear The Keep finally. And Risky Business. I haven't heard the TD tracks since I owned the record in the 80s.

It's $45 on iTunes or $200 via Amazon for the 10 disc cd set... decisions decisions...

Ah, I should clarify. I just meant it sounded like music that could have come out in that time. I wasn't saying it sounded like their 70s work. I'm not well versed enough in TD yet to make the statement it seemed like I was lol.

I'm in the opposite boat. I've been exploring their albums and aside from GTA 5, Thief, and possibly one other I am forgetting, I have not listened to much of their film work.

If you like these scores I would recommend the following albums:

Le Parc (contains the theme to Streethawk)
Logos
Force Majeure
Ricochet

Same. Definitely in the minority but I love the Melrose and Seattle years. My favorites behind Underwater Sunlight.

At the moment I am reading the British magazine Total Film and on their soundtrack page they have two reviews (Hans Zimmer`s Wonder Woman 1984 and Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross' Soul). But besides of those two reviews they do also have an article about Tangerine Dream or rather should I say Tangerine Dream`s 10 best soundtrack moments.

What do you think of the Joel Goldsmith Vampirella CD release, by the way?

Phaedra is also damn good. The 5.1 surround Blu-ray for that is quite trippy.

Great but that has to wait since I am already awaiting a CD order that includes Psycho 3 & Looney Tunes expanded among others.

This thread makes me now go out right away to get SORCERER... I remember that I really enjoy that score.

In my opinion Sorcerer is their worst score, hate it. However I really like their score to Three O`Clock High, that´s my favorite of their film scores.

That is early Tangerine Dream. When I was first getting into their music as a teenager in the early 80s, I liked a couple tracks like Grind, but was more into early 80s TD like Thief and Tangram. I’ve come to enjoy Sorcerer over the years since though.

Yes, the early, more experimental 70s Tangerine Dream is an acquired taste. Like David, I've really come to appreciate stuff like that over the years (and there's no denying the pioneering aspect of SORCERER), but for sheer "informal" listening pleasure, I tend to go for the 80s and 90s stuff more often.
