Did you read the press release above??

The fourth disc will present "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Complete Recordings" in 5.1 Surround Sound in DVD format.

You don't have to ask, I read it Dan, thanks. I just want that disc alone.

The way you worded your question implied that you wanted to know how much of the score was going to be in 5.1, not how much money it would cost for just that disc...which i don't think is being offered seperately...

Blah blah great blah blah jewel....seriously, this seems like such a, well, why in the WORLD would they sell a DVD-A along with three normal CDs? Or is the DVD is a normal one? Ugh, I HATE the way they...poison...CD releases with extras like that. Yes, I know most people like it, but I don''t. next thing it''ll say is that it''ll be some large ugly abnormal box...

Wow this is great news at last. And Yes Doug was right....Dan beat him to the breaking news smile

The releases are coming out in the tradition of the STAR WARS trilogy 2cd sets which were released seperately. I think I can see the wisdom in the 4 disc package. It would have been very difficult to sell the entire 12 disc set in one package. But I think this way you can get more music that we ahve bargained for. I belive this disc set will set a new standard for all the fans.

Cant wait for Novemeber and my birthday is right in it.

Fan-frickin-tastic! We can now get this party started! smile I am actually happy the releases are separate and staggered, as it will give me time to delve into each equally. And even come up with my own 'best of' CD versions of each score.

So is this a worldwide release or just USA?

To be fair, Doug actually pointed out the ComingSoon.net article to me this morning, and then I immediately posted it on SoundtrackNet and here.... and THEN I got the official press release in email.

DVDs that usually come with soundtracks barely add to the cost. Think of it this way, Josh: you get three CDs and a coaster.

I'll wait for the sell-your-grandmama-on-eBay box set...

If i can listen to just the music with 5.1 audio it's not just a coaster.

Excellent. Will the other two sets follow shortly, now that the initial package has taken final shape?

Not being impatient, just curious.

So, does that mean this fourth disc includes the entire contents of the other three discs in 5.1 Surround Sound? And which DVD format - DVD-Audio or DVD-Video with DTS and/or Dolby Digital sound?

Exactly what I was trying to ask.

By the Beard of Zeus, the complete score in 5.1!

I've been saving for a while...I just hope I've saved enough. The FOTR release date is a month after my birthday (Oct. 20), with dates for the other two as yet unknown, but as long as I get them it doesn't really matter in the long run.

Seeing how late in November the first release is, does that make the assumption that all three will be out by Christmas a spectacularly naive one?

OK, allow me these few sentences of venting and I promise not to poison your excitement in most of the future threads about this.

I say YUCK, YUCK and TRIPLE YUCK to this release. It's detrimental to the view on film music as a good listening experience. It contaminates all I believe in in terms of film music as PURE music. In short, I don't like the release nor the motivation behind it. It doesn't matter a monkey's ass to me if there is some splendid music left off the regular release that is being released on this set. If I want those moments, I put on my extended DVD set. The regular release encapsulates the sound world of FELLOWSHIP brilliantly in its 70+ minutes running time and I don't have any need for this massive overkill of a soundtrack "event".

Can I be this harsh without even having HEARD the damn thing? Yes, I can. I know the score to LOTR: FOTR and I know that I HATE complete and chronological presentations. That's enough.

OK, fire away if you want to. My party-poopin' is over (for now). smile

Don't worry, Thor, we'll make sure your copy gets a loving home somewwhere smile

I'm counting the days for this one. And I think it's a wise choice to issue the three scores individually. The lower price insures they'll probably sell more units that way.

And I'm sure they're happy to capitalize on the KONG publicity, too!

Well, i'm definitely going to buy this release and am looking forward to it a lot. I enjoyed the previous releases but to be honest don't listen to them that much. With such a mammoth amount of music i can see me truncating all my favourite bits onto my own cd (or cd's), but to be honest at least i'll be able to choose now that they're giving us all the music. I'd rather have a feast than a famine.

Thor - I respect your oppinion (and I knew you would say this at some point in this thread wink ), but to me there are simply too many great moments missing from the 1-disc releases. Especially in FOTR, there is this wonderful opening or the masterful introduction of the Gondor Theme during the Coucil of Elrond.
I'm glad that I can finally listen to the complete score without watching the movies (I don't really like them).
