Randy Newman cameoed in a pair of recent films bearing his scores: LEATHERHEADS (as a piano player) and THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG (as a firefly).

Newman also voiced The Singing Bush in Three Amigos (he co-scored that one with Elmer Bernstein). I wasn't sure if that one had been mentioned.

Leonard Rosenman appears at the piano in "East of Eden." If memory serves, he has a line, as well. I'll see if I can dig up an image from the scene.

Correct to a degree. Here's what Miguel Andrade said over at jwfan.net:

"If memory serves, "Blown Away" used some archival footage of a Hatch Shell concert, hence John Williams being in picture. From what I recall of the movie, there were some close ups, but for that, there was some actor performing as conductor. "

But Williams DID appear as a young pianist the tv show STACCATO.

As I mentioned over at jwfan, you might consider including the other Poledouris tv appearances too, as well as Elfman's brief cameo as a savage tribesman on I NEVER PROMISED YOU A ROSE GARDEN (1977):

Back in the 1920s, composer Gottfried Huppertz -- who was also an opera singer and theater actor -- had a few small roles in Fritz Lang's films.

He first appeared as a head waiter in Vier um die Frau (1921):

Next, he had a brief appearance in Dr. Mabuse Der Spieler (1922):

He had an uncredited cameo as a violinist in Metropolis (1927), for which he also composed the score. I couldn't find a handy shot of him in this film (I'm not 100% sure the shot survived), but here he is playing piano on the set:

Finally, he played a violinist in Lang's Spione (1928):

I'm not sure this counts, but Bruce Broughton can be spotted as a piano player in the '73 episode of "Gunsmoke" titled "A Quiet Day In Dodge" at a hotel where Matt Dillon tries to get a good night's rest (yes, he also scored the episode).

And oh yes, does anybody also recall Broughton's then boss, C.B.S. West Coast Muisc Director Morton Stevens as the drug addicted pianist of singer Nancy Wilson's character in the episode of "Hawaii Five O" (for which he composed probably his best known main title, as well as some episodes) titled "Trouble In Mind"?

Check out the doctor in a scene from The River (Rydell) when Sissy Spacek is brought in after having her arm caught in the combine.

It has to be John Williams
