Well, is it time to start badgering MV about next year's releases yet? (and whining and complaining)

--jthree

Oh, you missed that boat completely. We're bitching about 2024 releases already. 2025 complaints start on Wednesday.

Lol

Well not much for 2023 yet.. we have 2 releases in mid January , one of which was supposed to be a Black Friday title.

NOW BACK TO SHIPPING

I wanted to ask if anyone knows if the previous David Arnold/Bond releases are OOP or just Out of Stock, as the web page states. I missed them before and having just purchased Tomorrow Never Dies, I really want to have all!

Thanks.

Out of stock. Will be back 1st quarter 2023

MV

Thank you! Looking forward to it ;-)

Thank you for the update, MV. At this moment in time do you know when Casper and Field of Dreams will be back in stock.

Finally, I am assuming the Jan 23 flyer will be out in the first week in of Jan? I just want to save on shipping and will wait for the Jan titles and combine this with the BF and Dracula when ordering. Thank you for the wonderful titles in 22 and now look forward to 23. All the best to everyone at LLL for the festive season.

This may have been asked already but this thread is 27 pages long so I might have missed it…

What do you guys listen to when you’re packing orders? Movie scores? Pop music? Do you turn on a movie and just listen to it? Dead silence?

Just curious.

I want TWO volumes of the Six Million Dollar Man music. One will not be enough.

Probably the slave children theme from Temple of Doom smile

It would have to be four discs per set, but even then that wouldn't be enough.

One and only question haunts me MV:

Why no SMDM release yet? Just why?
What's the issue preventing any release of it?

It has been requested a million times around, here and there, over the last decades so there is an obvious fanbase interest in its release....so a break-even project I guess.

I just can't imagine there were no attempt to license this music so far.

So what is the problem?
Rights clearance issue or just reported lost tapes?

Thanks.

What the problem is? The problem is Universal! And mostly Universal! That's why there are so less score-CDs with music from Universal shows. You need some guys with influence, like the composer for example and it will work ("Battlestar Galactica", "Buck Rogers" and "Knight Rider" all done because Phillips himself wanted them to get released). And you have the problem of researching where or if some tapes are stored. It is too expensive for the labels. Maybe we will never see another release of Universal's TV-music, because it could be, that all tapes had been burned in Universal`s 2008 fire.

In fairness to Universal, I would assume it's more complicated than simply demonizing them.

I know Thierry Schreurs was using hyperbole when he suggests "a million" requests (amusingly, he comes back down to earth by concluding that he guesses it would be "a break-even project," even though no label stays in business by breaking even). But realistically, have there been more than a dozen unique requests here?

Even if there have been three times that (which would be a lot!), we have to accept that posts on FSM are a very misleading metric for ultimate sales. I don't think we have to look any further than the failure of Intrada's '80s "Twilight Zone" set to prove that. Labels have to look past the enthusiasm shown by people like us (recall that LLL licensed the "Star Trek" TOS box for 6,000 copies, but ultimately pressed only 4,000).

Of course, there are myriad factors at play, including (yes) studio cooperation, availability and organization of materials, and on and on. Obviously, "12 O'Clock High" was just released with minimal clamoring around here. Some things fall into place easier than others, sometimes for reasons we are not privy to.

I still consider it a minor miracle that any of this stuff comes out. Don't assume anything is inevitable. I've always found it odd when people here ask what the delay is on a project like "Six Million Dollar Man." What delay? Nobody said it was coming at all!

Anxious to know what LLL's January titles are, especially since one was supposed to be included in the Black Friday batch. Unfortunately, I'll probably have to wait until January 1st. Any clues to tide me over?

LLL does soundtrack albums, not clues. You'll just have to wait like the rest of us.

But we have absolutely no feedback of any attempt by any label, that's what haunts me.
Or did I miss something?

Thierry, please also understand that I am not in any way trying to discourage you, or suggesting that there aren't many fans of the music you love. I'll admit I am always a bit cynical when anybody suggests any soundtrack album is sure to sell well, because we know so few of them do, including many that people on this board consider no-brainers.

But truly, I hope you get your wish! As for feedback, in general, the label reps don't discuss these matters publicly until a project is a lock. Don't take silence to mean anything other than silence.

There was one comment from MV years ago, speaking of the new Universal line, where he listed a few short titles he wanted to do from Universal. The series was in the list. There is that comment, if that helps. Anything else is just people perpetrating the myth something else was said and a release is impending -- I have no idea where that started.

Yes, and thanks for mentioning that one true bit of info.

As you say, it's very easy to see what happens here. People scan posts quickly, somebody says that MV once said something about score XYZ, somebody else says maybe that's coming for Black Friday, somebody else asks "I wonder if the reports of XYZ coming on Black Friday are true?" and suddenly there are "rumors swirling" which were born of virtually no actual information. And then when XYZ doesn't come out for several years, people are frustrated by the delay, which is actually not a delay because nothing was coming.
