Q is one of the most famous nicknames here. It's fairly easy if you think composer names; not a lot of Qs going around. smile

You have to read the rules of the game, Thor! Let me help -

"Q once had a job in Italy." That kind of thing.

My bad.

But shouldn't there be a time when someone just confirms the right answer? I mean, you got it for "Curly".

I think there should be, but the rules are a bit unclear in the initial post. Perhaps Sir David would like to clarify matters, if he deems us peasants worthy of his attention.

For solved ones, I’m thinking we can do the spoiler cover like this: spoiler

“Q”, did this composer get paid a fistful of money per project? Or does their rate kost too much for studios to pay?

“Flop Ears”, does listening to this composer’s music elicit the reaction “Whoah”?

I think we should make our own nicknames based on the composers’ popular movies or trademarks:

Bill “Rocky” Conti / Bill “Funky” Conti
John "Jedi" Williams
Jerry Gold”synth”
Bernard “Psycho” Herrmann
John “007” Barry / John “Tatanka” Barry
Maurice of Jarre-abia
Leonard “Atonal” Rosenman / Leonard “Pyramid” Rosenman
Elmer “The Magnificent” Bernstein
Harold “Foley” Faltermeyer

So I will add that "Flop Ears" is best known for his TV work.

a few (maybe more obvious?) come to mind:

Genius Baby

The Hug

One-take _[familiar form of composer's first name]

Though Q's "roots" are in jazz he studied for a time with a classically-trained Nadia.

Here's one for everybody: "The Fat One."

He had a good friend Herbie with whom he shares credit on a catchy, even, "whistleable" tune.

Ok, how about another on the same theme - does "Flop Ears" think that's air they're breathing?

I'm surprised Jerry Gold"synth" hasn't caught on in these boards yet.

I'm thinking you've got it. Did he write the opposite of THIS BOY?

Possibly. He also worked for a show where the actor, who was also a writer, was highly 'culp-able.' Also, if he had a theme song of his own it might have been 'Here We Go 'Round The Mayberry Bush.'

Now I know who "Flop Ears" is: Earle Hagen

To be fair though, one of the main hints was being a "trombonist" so I thought it was Don Davis, hence my hints about THE MATRIX (Neo saying "whoah", "you think that's air you're breathing").

But these composers in this mystery list all seem to be older composers I guess, not the younger ones, so it makes sense I suppose.

Because Aaron was busy "Beardsly" stepped in, resulting for the latter an Oscar win.

I don't know the circumstance you're referencing, so I must ask.

Is this in reference to the opposite of THE WORST SECONDS OF OUR DEATHS?
