I do these two-fers occasionally to give value for money but there is very little profit in them when the licensing fee in essence doubles.

This confirms that I'm in the minority here (= me + ?): two-fers deal of unrelated scores &/or composers usually refrains me from purchasing (instead of rush for the good deal). There is ALWAYS a method to the madness smile

So....a much loved LP is finally released on CD, hurrah I must buy it. Wait a minute, there's another soundtrack with it that I'm not bothered about, well I'm not going to buy it! All sounds a bit daft to me.

This isnt the first Barry/Bennett twofer released. Im pretty sure I have a cd with 'Ipcress' and a Bennett score that I cant remember now at home.

In March 1966, Barry said that 'The Whisperers' was his only film commitment for that year as he wanted to concentrate on composing the stage musical version of 'Brighton Rock' to be directed by Joseph Losey.

When 'Brighton Rock collapsed, he took on 'The Quiller Memorandum'

'Quiller' is the Barry score I want reissued most. I still listen to my LP, but missed the Varese release. Please please someone...

That one was a bootleg, I'm afraid to say.

So this is still the first official one.

Was interested in Equus anyway, but the inclusion of the Barry score seals it. Ordered.

I also think being a twofer helps, because although "The Whisperers" is the headliner for me, the one I want this CD for, I already had it. Now, I could justify buying this disc on the better sound and lack of dialogue, and probably would have, but the fact there's another score that's new to me just seals it. It makes it all the more justifiable to partake.

Others who are in it for Equus primarily might think the same in reverse.

Cheers

Btw, can Bruce elaborate on why/how he sees particular titles more eligible for two-fer treatment than others?

tentative reason 1: no available bonus/unreleased material?

It depends on the scores and whether I think there's enough sales in doing them separately - certainly I'd make more money that way. So, I do research and based on that I decide. If, for example, one of the scores is super short then I pair it if it's possible (it isn't always possible for various reasons). In pairing, I also try to do two scores that make sense together musically - so even though The Whisperers and Equus are very different films by very different composers, for me they a) work together and b) the capper and point was they were two previous CD releases that had dialogue.

On the other hand, I knew I'd be fine not pairing A Bridge Too Far because I simply looked at the money used copies were bringing, and I also talked to a few dealers. And because we've occasionally had to do thirty minute single CDs, I occasionally just do it for the value of it - I certainly could have charged 24.98 or 29.98 for the two-CD One-Eyed Jacks, but I will always try to give a bargain to make up for times when it's impossible to do so.

But if you look at any of our CDs with two scores, the scores usually have a reason to be together.

I love your twofers! No matter how specious the reason for pairing two scores (or how tenuous the connection between them), please continue to produce such marvellous CDs!

How did this end up on page two? We simply cannot have that.

Meanwhile, A Bridge Too Far is shipping in the morning.

I am very much looking forward to this - a favourite soundtrack, and every Kritzerland re release that I have had has been at least a noticeable improvement on the previous sound.

Also looking forward to hearing a score that I have never heard before. I'm not that familiar with RRB, although the score to Murder On The Orient Express is a big favourite.

And yes, if someone would like to do the Quiller Memorandum, I would be VERY happy.

"The Chase" could do with some sound improvements. One of my favorites, but I never listen to the old CD because of the grating sonics.
