Yeah, but these things can be very elaborate. Someone got me last year too with that "FSM warehouse video" showing boxes of The Ten Commandments. I wish he hadn't posted that particular release date, I really want to believe in this...fingers crossed its not a joke...

If this is indeed an April fool's joke then I really don't understand the motivation. Surely it's not in a record company's best interest to tease and then prank their customers in such a manner. I could understand it if this happened the week before April 1st, but two months before? It seems a little mean spirited and it's probably not the wisest thing to do when you're relying on a very small customer base to sell collectibles.

Chris.

Well, the cat IS out of the bag. And just to clarify a few things: This IS, indeed, a legitimate, officially licensed release. I have been dealing with the lawyers of the Bernstein Estate, who, in turn, put me in touch with USC, where the Elmer Bernstein collection is housed. They had 2 audio reels with the album master, compiled by Elmer when the film came out. When the film proved less than successful, the plans for a soundtrack release were scrapped, and the material was archived.
John Strother of Penguin Recordings did a stellar digital transfer, and the music sounds as crisp and clear as if it had been recorded last week. I am really very happy with it.
A note regarding the ownership: I called Nigel Green’s office when I first started working on this, and the woman I spoke to told me they don’t own the rights. That’s when I got in touch with the Estate.

Right now, I am listening to the music while watching the movie to find out where the individual cues go, so I can give them titles. Thsi is a bit ttricky, as some cues are combined on the album, or the film rerpeats a cue here and there, sometimes partially. In any case, it is a great score, and I am very happy that it can finally be released. It should be out around April 1, 2011.

By the way, it's probably going to be limited to 3000 copies.

Well done .... having worked with Elmer on his very last recording, DE MILLE, which he kept CD rights to, I always thought that Elmer might have retained some of the rights rather than have Entertainment Films retain all of them

PLEEEEZ tell me this isn't an April Fool's joke. This is my #1 most wanted unreleased score.

Oh my god. Speechless. At last!

EDIT: Crap hadn't noticed the April 1st stinger. So what's the deal. I'm in a bad mood anyway given the death of Mr. Barry -- and this hasn't helped at all. Not at all.

I don't think Robin would have posted the above message with such detail if this was nothing but a joke. And beyond that, it's not funny. smile

Yeah, I'm leaning 90% not a joke. But my other trepidation is that what's-their-faces will suddenly remember they DO control the rights...

Are you people here "totally deranged"? wink It´s NO HOAX...
Robin would not do this to his customers as it would be suicide for his label after all the hate mails , so this IS VALID...
I saw the movie once when it came out on VHS but do not remember either the movie nor the music...
Hope they make a great cover this time to this CD as it is obviously a grale to many here...

I really, REALLY do not think that Robin meant the April 1st release date as a joke. At least, not intentionally. This is as legit as legit can be.

And there goes another record label representative... and I don't blame you, Robin.

Some of you people around here are truly unbelievable. No wonder people are leaving.

Okay, I think I've read enough posts to remove that little shred of doubt back out of my mind, thank you everyone. smile

Can't wait for this! This would probably be the best cover art to use:

Sir, I respectfully suggest that you do not respond to all. Continue focusing on your excellent releases and ignore the background noise. The silent majority will continue to buy your cd's, no doubt about it.

In fact, we should all challenge ourselves to releasing at least one film score to fully appreciate the work that goes into one of these productions.

Please keep up the good work Sir.

Avec mes compliments

Sorry Robin. It's just the shock that this score is really, truly coming out. It seems too good to be true!

A thousand accolades upon you for making this happen.

Well said! It seems that x-files boxset needs to drop badly to calm down the conspiracy theorists around here wink

Look forward to Slipstream and other titles by Perseverance.

Slipstream seems a big grail & a Bernstein favorite, but I've never seen it, it seems to have passed me by. The end title didn't do much for me, I'll pass.

Wow...tremendous news. A really fabulous score, and now I'll never ever have to watch that God awful movie again.

Ordered ...umm I mean...ordered when it's available.
