Sad news, but what a run you've had, Lukas! Thanks for all the amazing releases over the years. You are a pioneer!

I'm happy to read you will be lending your knowledge and talents to other labels.

What a sad day indeed...But thanks a million for introducing me to composers like Miklos Rosza and the older scores of some of my favourite composers (Williams, Bernstein, Jarre). I've learned a lot about film music through your scores/CD's. Good luck Lucas (and the rest of your crew because I think this is a team effort). And I'm looking forward to seeing your name pop up in liner note somewhere...You guys rock(ed)!

It needs to be said that Lukas Kendall has the kind of sharpness and general understanding of business, life, art, you name it, that suggst he could do just about anything if he chose I reckon. He chose to do this, and we should be grateful.

He rarely exposes all his thoughts but his personality permeates through all at FSM, even the boards where he makes rare appearances. The overall impression is a cool guy. He may describe himself as hotheaded and obsessive, but he's the level-headed captain of a very difficult vessel to steer, and we all know a perfect gent when we see one.

This damned credit-crunch and the world's corporate collective idiocy that led to it has hit a lot of people. Lukas has tried to do as much as he could ... things like the Rozsa box one feels he released because he promised to release all the MR MGM material, and he kept that promise, even though it must've been a gamble project.

And he has considerable talent and taste too. The liner notes, the choices, even the supervision of the soundmix that FSM achieves, which is second to none in these days of either reverb-swamp, or psychotic scratchy clipped sound for the fetishists .... FSM always had that perfect soundblend.

I'm never a sycophant. I think Lukas shows a remarkable level-head, and he gave (and will give in some capacity) us all some great stuff. He's a pioneer of releasing this stuff, and a friend to the composers as well, whose legacy, especially among the young, is greatly enhanced. AND, he cares about the GOOD stuff, which is under onslaught all the time now. And of course ... the most critical clientelle in the music world.

But he's taken up his cross on this stuff. He's an AUTHORITY. Yes, he loved doing it, but you always feel a guy like old Lukas could do so much with his gifts and general abilities, that there has to be an element of self-sacrifice in it.

I'm hoping LK has a great plan B lined up. He deserves it.

You gave score fans the greatest gifts of all times. Star Trek The Wrath Of Khan and Star Trek The Search For Spock complete! Bravo for making those a reality!

250 CDs. Is it me, or did that go by really fast? Remember when Pelham came out, Lukas said in the magazine that he didn't plan FSM to become a CD label? And that Pelham was probably a one-time thing? Funny how things turn out.

I like to think Lukas' contributions to other labels will still result in more of the kind of scores FSM has put out over the years. And while I would indeed scratch my head at some of the releases (and the people saying "wow I always wanted that score" I never heard of), I really have to express my gratitude to you, Lukas, for releasing so many great scores I've loved and for preserving, and making available, all the other stuff I scratched my head over. You've done so much for the film score community, there's no adequate way to truly thank you.

But thank you anyway.

Sad news - I've only been collecting since 2008!

I only have 15 FSM releases so far, but among them are some of my most treasured CDs - Outland, Bullitt, Coma & Westworld (together, amazing!) - and I have a looonnnngggg list of the older releases I want to track back and get when I can, so I have lots to look forward to yet.

In presentation, design, and quality, FSM is virtually unparalleled - the booklets alone thrill me, and their efforts to release music against sometimes overwhelming odds are stunning. I can't thank you enough, Lukas, and everyone else over there.

And as I look at the front page, it's already 1 down, 9 to go - can't wait to see what's among them!

Wow.

FSM has been my favorite label for years now. I know that may not mean much, given how relatively few FSM CDs I've actually been able to get, but I've loved the ones I've gotten and I always wish I could get more.

I'll personally miss the label tremendously (even if it results in a slightly decreased output of "must-have" vintage score releases, which honestly would be a good thing as far as my finances are concerned), but I completely understand. I occasionally daydream about running a business enterprise myself based around some fannish passion of mine, but I know there's no way I'd ever be able to cope with the more dreary aspects of running a business. I'm deeply grateful Lukas and company have been willing to put up with it for so long.

Best of luck, Mr. Kendall, and thanks so much for all the great CDs.

"Mutiny on the Bounty" so far my favourite FSM-Release. What a labour of love. It could only be done by a fanatic (in a positive sense) like Lukas Kendall. What a professional work you have done over the last years.
What an incredible amount of releases with those fantasic track by track analysis by Master Bond.

Thanks from Germany to the FSM staff. It´s the end of an era and makes me sad.

All the best
Peter

Wow, this is heavy! It is indeed an end to a wonderful era.

FSM was around most of my collecting times, and I have many, many of your wonderful cds in my collection, and I would have never dreamt this time would come. But I am sure, you know what you are doing, Lukas, and I just want to thank you for the countless hours of listening pleasure your cds have provided me, and for this place, that I dearly love, and enjoy. To be honest, I can't even remember now, what my first FSM CD was? It might have been Jerry's "Stagecoach", but I am not 100 percent certain on this.

I wish you all the best with your future endeavors, and thank you wholeheartedly!

Just like the rest of the group I'm in total shock!

I'm going to keep this short and sweet... I hope... but I just wanted to thank Lukas from the bottom of my heart for all of his support over the years! Since the label's inception until about a few years ago Lukas graciously provided me with CD's for air play on my radio show. Every three months or so I would produce an exclusive FSM show featuring the newest and most recent FSM releases. To be totally honest a good 90% of the albums FSM produced I wouldn't have purchased but thanks to Lukas' generosity I was introduced to some fantastic music that I would have never taken a chance on.

Mutiny on the Bounty was one of those scores and Bronislau Kaper was one of those composers that I had never heard of. But thanks to FSM's lavish 3-CD set of music from that film it has become one of my all time favorite scores. So much so that it now sits firmly at number 9 on my all time favorite film scores list.

Prince Valiant is another example. I had heard Gerhardt's fantastic suite and loved every moment of it but I had no idea how masterful the rest of the score was. Prince Valiant is currently my number 10 score of all time and it's because of the FSM CD that it is where it is on my all time favorites list.

I know I have more to say but I just can't put it into words right now. The best thing for me to do is to say thank you to Lukas and everyone at FSM and SAE for the magazine and for all of the great CD's you have introduced me to. Some of them are in the picture below!

You will be missed!

All the best in your future endeavors!

-Erik-

My favorite soundtrack label goes bye-bye. Just wanted to thank you all for the amazing ride and all the holy grails that arrived at my doorstep. The Blue Box, McQ, Wait until Dark, Bullitt, ST II, Shaft, The Omega Man, The French Connection...the list goes on and on. With a tearful eye, I wish all involved the best of luck in the future.

Funnily enough, I bet this announcement will increase sales! You don't know what you have sometimes until it's gone...

I started seriously collecting soundtracks and engaging with the soundtrack community around the time that FSM started up its regular series of CD releases. So, like others on the board, I feel the sobering sense of the end of an era. I am tremendously grateful for all that Lukas (and everyone at FSM) has done for the soundtrack community. I always knew, when buying an FSM release, that I was getting a top-notch product and FSM really helped set the bar for soundtrack releases.

Thank you in particular for the following releases which have been very important to me:

Star trek II / II
The Ron Jones Project
Islands in the Stream
Big Wednesday
Days of Heaven
The Illustrated Man
Poltergeist
Twilight Zone: The Movie

I look forward to the final 10 releases and Lukas and everyone else involved the best of luck with future endeavors.

Chris.

Knowing that the FSM label will conclude on a very high milestone achievement,
GREMLINS

Or...maybe Gremlins will be picked up by Intrada The issue was that Geffen is now owned by Universal, which Intrada has an in with, right?

Ridiculous assumptions aside, I'm stunned by the news.

Many thanks to Lukas and all the members of the FSM team for all their efforts over the years making this music available. I'm grateful to say that I was there. :-)

I recall the days when FSM was a four page newsletter. Lukas was going to college and lived at home and the funniest comment he included in this newsletter was if anyone called his number and a nice lady answered it was his mother and please be nice to her. Over a period of time a few of us asked if he thought one day their might be a way that FSM could get some old soundtracks released. I never would have believed back then what would transpire. Thanks so much Lukas.

I completely agree except I'll add OMEGA MAN, THE TAKING OF PELHAM 1-2-3.

Big Wednesday was my #1 Holy Grail.

Thank you so much Lukas!

It'll be fun to compare everyone's top 10 FSM cd's.
