Lukas,

Everything you've created with FSM - and the long-dreamed-of Community that has formed up around it, has truly been "The Place Where Dreams Come True" for so many of us.

Congratulations on your achievement and my warmest best wishes for this next phase of your career. I know you'll always be a visible force in the celebration and preservation of film music, so I won't say "goodbye."

And most of all, thank you.

Mike

Nothing Lasts Forever.

I'll certainly miss the FSM releases when they end - but I am looking forward to the final lot!

The Cream at the top - All things considered - best product/best value for money/best notes.

Mild.

PS. Bugger.

Shocked! eek

Nobody saw this coming. (I guess not even Bruce Kimmel but then you never know)
Very sad decision indeed.
I will miss the FSM label, I have MANY of their CDs in my collection, including the very first CD Lukas made - the first pressing of The Taking of Pelham One Two Three.
Thanks Lukas for all the gems you released in all those years.

Sad, but you know what's best! I wish you happiness and luck in your future endeavors!

Thank you so, so much for releasing such great titles and sets. The Blue Box was and still is incredible, it holds a treasured place in my collection.

The Rozsa box I absolutely adore and it, likewise, is a true centerpiece for me. Quo Vadis, Madame Bovary, who would have ever expected? Time After Time as well, so awesome!

Heavy Metal and your other Bernstein releases, love them.

There is so much good you have done, I'll treasure it all. Thank you.

I'm going to put aside some time today to come up with a better reply than this. So I'll just say this one thing to sum up my thoughts and leave it at that for now:

FUCK.

Enjoy the change. You've earned it.

Of course I'll feel sad and maybe even a little bit concerned.

However, you guys must feel like Superman: the more you save the world, the more you've earned your retirement even if we folks still need more. (Not that you're talking about 'total' retirement, LOL!)

But, like I said, you've earned it.

Cheers

Why are there three simultanous threads about this?

In any case, all good things must come to an end.

I'm sure we'll get back to you with more "farewells" when the 250th release is out, Lukas, but I just wanted to say -- beyond the disagreements we've had off-board -- thank you very much for your work in preserving these treasures, and for getting out many of these gems which were previously completely unavailable.

For my own part, the Williams ones have been a treat, in particular. Maybe there are even a couple more waiting among the next ten??

Good luck in your future projects. Be certain that you've left a considerable cultural legacy behind.

And as you say yourself -- even though the FSM label may come to an end, there are still many specialty labels out there, churning out one release after the other in what cannot be described as anything other than a Golden Age of Soundtracks.

You and your team have given me much to rejoice about; "Coma", "Islands in the Stream", "Outland", "Poltergeist", "Star Trek II", "Ron Jones Project", "Beneath, Conquest, Battle - Planet of the Apes", "Omega Man"... to name but a few. I can't wait to see what you have in store with the final 10 titles, but will dread the last one, if only for not being able to look forward to another great title being announced on the quality label FSM.

Sad to see FSM end as a label, hope its legacy will continue through your work on other labels and projects.

It's a really sad news... There will be completely different world of soundtracks without FSM label...
Thank you, Lukas, for everything you gave to us, listeners...

Wow, the end of an era. eek

While Lukas' rationalization that the other soundtrack labels have taken up the reigns of preserving classic golden and silver age titles that used to be the sole driving force of FSM is sound, seeing one of "the greats" closing their doors forever just seems like another sign of the inevitable extinction of the limited soundtrack CD business entirely. frown I have probably a hundred or more FSM titles in my collection, and hope to add many more from the back catalogue before they get taken off the market. I, too, own the very first pressing of the very first "Retrograde" release, The Taking Of Pelham 1-2-3 (which introduced me to a great movie...!), and it amazes me Lukas managed to work his way up from a sixteen-year-old kid writing into Starlog to a man who has preserved over 250 great film scores on CD twenty+ years later. I raise my glass to you, good sir. smile

I feel like going into mourning, but I understand. Thank, Lukas, for all you've done on your FSM label, and I'm glad you'll continue to be involved in future productions.

If it wasn't for stumbling upon FSM's expanded Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan score, I would have never known this extensive soundtrack world existed.

Best of luck to you Lukas, in all your future endeavors.

I first heard about this a few months ago, but chose not to believe it.

I had to shed a tear when I saw this, this morning.

I remember when lukas first came just to visit L.A. and I went to lunch at Butterfields with Lukas and my friend Bart Pierce. What a long time ago.

Good luck , Lukas !!!!

Thanks for always being a class act.

What an incredible job you have done over these years!! Vastly appreciated by your followers and customers.

Rest well deserved, but thrilled that you will still be involved in creating these great recordings.

I'm so sad to hear this - but glad you get to move on, Lukas.
To say it's the end of an era is an understatement to me personally.
As a 10 year old child in Ottawa, Ontario - 'riding' down the streets
humming 'The Alamo', 'The Guns of Navarone' and 'Taras Bulba'
I never could have imagined a label like yours would ever exist!!!
...sob...tears.

I'm too stunned to write rationally. But, briefly, thank you for bringing so much joy and beauty to my life.

Although it's perhaps a bit of sad news for us, it's perfectly understandable for you Lukas. There is no way to underestimate what you have done for the film score community over the years and that legacy, carried on by other labels even after yours has shut down, will hopefully continue for a long time to come. And let's not forget the FSM magazine and this board that has opened up the world for so many of us to finally have a place to share our love of film music with others.

I'd say thanks and goodbye, but we know you won't be gone, just working in a different capacity in a world you helped create. In those future endeavors, the best of luck to you!

Only one thing to say right now: Lukas, you're the MAN!

Your friend,

Mark
