favorite tracks from Lethal Weapon:

11. "Drive to the dealer's House"; love this instrumental with 'jake and the fatman'esque sax wink

21. "The Desert"; I like lengthy tracks and this one delivers plenty, could have easily been part of the Die Hard scores, very tense.

22. The "Riggs Escapes" second half of track 22, groovy and love the drum playing.

25. "SOB knows where I live" another funky track with some great sax

My general impression with the first Lethal Weapon is that Kamen, Clapton and Sanborn work marvelously well together, the sound could have sounded dated but the playing is great and feels improvised at times. I do like Roger more than I do Riggs music-wise. wink
The Kamen-only stuff is very close to Die Hard and definitely a taste of what was to come.

The "SOB knows where I live" track is great both in its film version and orchestra-only, it's really tough to choose between them. I kind of liked how on the Bacchus release of the score, with those added tracks, the film version with guitar and sax begins the "Mr Joshua" track but then the orchestra-only version is included near the end, after "The General's Car".

The sound is almost too good on this release. smile

Lethal Weapon 1. Track 12 "Dealer's House, Swimming Pool"

Listen closely at the 0:35 mark and you can hear a voice say "alright!" on the right channel. Possibly Eric Clapton?

Like other people have said the sound is stunning for this set. Truly. My favorite might be LW2.... What Kamen came up for the villian's theme is great. Those chimes or percussion are perfect and showcased to great effect in the final fight with Riggs. Also been waiting 25 years to hear Mulholland chase and the Stilt House Fight music. Wow!

I actually heard the same thing on this track on the Bacchus album release, when the track was titled "We're Too Old For This Shit" and I still find it a great little Easter egg, something that really gives the music additional soul.

Having enjoyed the first three scores so much, I was surprised how much I disliked #4.
Maybe I was too tired to appreciate it after such a lot of listening.
Perhaps the composer and artists were a bit tired of it by then too?

Has anyone in the UK had this come without customs charges?

It's possible you were suffering a LW fatigue, but no doubt there had to be some sort of fatigue also felt by Kamen and his crew on the 4th film. He does provide a great new balletic, action theme heard in both "Freighter" and "Freeway Chase", plus I happen to really like his Chinese theme, heard in "Money Montage". Additionally, the percussion elements are great, I love both the film and alternate versions of "Chinatown Chase" and there are some nice renditions of Riggs' theme featured in "Marriage Talk" and "Cemetery".

I find that it's LW 3 that may not have as much material to return to on repeated listens, but it's still a good score.

I agree with all of this re: Lethal Weapon 4. "Marriage Talk" and "Freighter" in particular are totally wonderful -- although I haven't made it to "Freeway Chase" yet -- can't wait! I am halfway through the fourth score and like it as much as any of the others, it's just as fresh and vibrant to me in a lot of parts. In addition to all the points made by Tom Servo above, I have to say that the buddy-comedy music in part 4 is the best of the series -- tracks like "Cell Phone" and "Don't Turn / Cute Shorts". And the buddy-comedy music is usually my least favorite part of these scores! Well, aside from the sax-heavy material. I could do without Butters' harmonica stuff, didn't care for that, but I love the bouncy, catchy material in those two tracks I just mentioned.

The action material on this set is amazing of course -- "We're Leaving" ... "Mulholland Chase" ... "Helicopters Approach / Helicopter Attack" ... "Gun Fight" ... but can I just say WOW the cue "Fire / Fire Battle" from the climax of Lethal Weapon 3 is vicious, barnstorming action material! Didn't realize its power in the film but hearing it on its own is a revelation. My favorite surprise action cue from the set, I think.

I received my set in a week, with no customs charges. Strangely, I'm still waiting for Defiance and Superman Returns, which was ordered separately and shipped first. So, I might get slapped with charges on that one.

Same here. Recieved LW on Saturday but am still waiting for SR, Def and PA which was sent nearly a week earlier. I'm thinking it might be because LW was in a box and sailed straight through whereas SR et al are stuck with all the other Christmas parcels because it's in a jiffy. Fingers crossed.

My package consists of Lethal Weapon box, Defiance, Superman Returns & Police Academy

No sign yet.

Normally LLL takes just under a week but this time of year delays are inevitable.
However I do tend to get a bit paranoid after having 2 expensive packages go missing a couple of Christmases ago.

I've made it through the first two discs so far, and what impresses me most is the detail in the orchestration. I wouldn't say the mix in the movie is unfair to the score--the music takes center stage in many key sequences--but in the hustle and bustle of an action movie of course you might lose some of the nuance. The biggest benefactor for me, and maybe my favorite cue now, is "Amanda," which sounds much more dynamic here than it does in the film. There's so much going on here I'd never heard before, with Kamen's expressive writing layering different textures to achieve an unsettling effect that mixes suspense and alluring beauty. It's a solid cue in the movie; it's a stunning track on the album.

I'm also happy the album mixes were included in the set, because the original soundtrack offers a great presentation of the material that supplements the score rather than making it redundant. "Meet Martin Riggs" is an especially entertaining piece (even if it doesn't all have to do with Martin Riggs wink).

On to LW2!

Agreed Mike. The first score bristles with originality and energy. I don't think there is a cue I want to skip over... Maybe the torture scene before Riggs escapes... I do prefer the album cue Mr. Joshua over this. Yes out of sequence but one hell of a track !

Normally I don't care for album presentations alongside the complete/expanded releases of scores, often they feel redundant and unnecessary for my personal listening preference. However, with these scores I'm inclined to agree with you Mike Skerritt. A perfect example is the cue you mentioned, "Meet Martin Riggs," which is just a terrific suite of Riggs material on guitar (the second half anyway) that is scattered across the complete score. My favorite inclusion is the album cuts of Lethal Weapon 3; the third film's score is my favorite I'd say, and in addition to having the in sequence complete score I do enjoy the album presentation. I used to listen to the hell out of it even back on audiocassette many years ago so the arrangements of cues for that album are a nostalgic listen for me and they often work quite well (for example combining "Gun Battle" with "Fire" for the Armor Piercing Bullets track works quite well).

Was listening to the LW3 score and was wondering why the cue "I Can't Retire" was not included in the complete and chronological sequence but was added in with the alternates? If memory serves that cue plays in the film as it does here on album and I wonder why it was placed last on disc 2 and not in film order. Has this been mentioned yet? Just curious.
