This label sounds like it's run by crooks. If I were to place an order for this merchandise, I'd be stunned to actually receive anything.

And the Golden Turd Award for Most Ridiculous Reply goes to...

LOL-yes/ If Stylotone was here it would probably say to this person: 'that this product is targeted at a specific target market to which obviously you dont belong'.

Seriously you DONT have to buy this watermelon! smile

Although I'm one of the hardest-core hardcore Herrmann collectors, this is sadly an offer I can refuse. Quite a few other people here seem ready to resist this offer, as well. If members of this forum won't spring for the set, where is the customer base who will?

My feelings about this one (with tons of emotions):

First: Wow! Finally!!!! Great art work!!! smile smile smile cool cool cool

Next: Wait, who release it? I thought it will be Intrada/Varese/LLL etc... confused confused confused

Next: On VINYL with CD as "nice little addition"?! mad mad mad mad mad mad

Next: The price is awful for one CD and tons of useless physical content, plus - why they can't give as link for downloadable content right after we places the order? frown frown frown mad mad mad

After Bruce's comment: Hmmm... Maybe our labels need to made some investigation about this new label, which is goin' to release some cult scores, on which another labels worked for years? Another Har**t situation? confused confused confused

Final one: Well, if all will be legal (Bruce and others will confirm it and that where will be no CD release in near future) - I need to find money for one great CD and useless LP ('cause I even have no LP-player at home!!!) frown frown frown

There's something wacky about this - working with the estates? Not the rights' holders? Alfred Hitchcock's estate does not own Marnie, Universal does. Unless these people have suddenly gotten in where so many others have failed. And then to do this kind of thing? I'm sure they'll release the CD alone at some point, but I would like to know the behind-the-scenes on this.

That was my first thought too. If you look at press texts from other labels there's always mention of the rights holders.

I just found this statement by Roger Feigelson about Stylotone:

Actually, Intrada has something of a relationship with Universal.

Like just about everybody who has posted in this thread, I not only have no interest in an LP or other format (only a CD), but I also have even less interest in paying all this extra money for this or any other title.

If this is going to be their MO on future titles, I will be holding my breath each time they announce a new title, 'cause that means -- assuming Bruce is wrong -- they have legally tied up the rights to a title I would have normally bought if they had done this like every other label.

Going by the track listing, it seems that quite a lot of cues weren't used in the film, which is enticing. However, I agree with the majority on here. I just can't justify spending so much money on something I only reallly want on CD. Hope Marnie isn't the same.

My $0.02:

Nobody forces anyone to buy this or any other Stylotone releases.
These things cost money to produce and distribute and how a label thinks it can recoup their cost is up to them.

The US speciality label charge around $20 for a CD in the US.
If you want to get it in Europe that comes with postage or if you buy it from a local store it is roughly around 28 Euros or 22 Pounds... ($30) For a just one CD. A regular CD in Europe is around 13 Euros or 10 Pounds ($14).
Is that a good deal? No but it is how Intrada, Lalaland try to recoup their costs. It's up to them and one does not need to buy their releases.

So 40 Pounds is not an unreasonable price for what is included.
Look at this for example.... http://www.vfeditions.com/product/view/51

I can only say I've heard the complete Twisted Nerve and Khartoum Stylotone CDs. They sound great. Sean and the others did a fantastic job. And Twisted Nerve is a much better score than I ever thought it was. The old half-LP had only 18 min and it is not a good representation.

Will they sell the CDs separately in the future?

Who knows? Depends on sales I suppose...

The comment section here is interesting:

YES! This is the MAIN question, which interests mostly everyone, who posted here - will Stylotone or any other label release it on CD?
'Cause if no "CD-only" release is planning, people will blame Stylotone but probably buy it. But if they do it and after that someone else will release CD-only release, people will blame both Stylotone & that label for their silence.

So, may we ask (probably from name all of Herrmann/score fans) anyone, who get this information - will we see CD-only release in near future or this Stylotone edition is the only way to get Twisted Nerve?

I've ordered this because I love the score. Like others, I wish there was a CD only option but here's how I think of it: if this was a rare, deleted CD that came up on E-Bay for £40, I'd have bought it.

However, given Bruce's revelation, I think these other labels who originally had TWISTED NERVE and MARNIE only to be kyboshed by rights issues—presumably labels more familiar to us, who would have released a CD only version at regular prices—might be a bit peeved. I feel sorry about that. Especially if they'd already spent money on preparing masters. We love our labels. We hate it when they get screwed by something like this.

One can only assume that this intervention of Quentin Tarantino was to overcome the rights issues.

Look, I'm not gonna kick Stylotone though. Okay, yeah, it's a bit crappy that you have no choice but to pay lots more than usual and purchase three formats when you only needed one. And, yeah, I really do feel sorry for the kyboshed labels. But, heck, they're new, they're enterprising, they're bringing out a great score and it looks perfectly legit. I think folks were a bit presumptuous to cast aspersions on their legitimacy. Do we think Norma Herrmann would really back something not properly permitted? Also, Roger says it's right above board and I assume he knows.

And I am intrigued about the download being the full unedited recording sessions. I mean, musically, that will be a boring way of listening to the score but to listen through at least once and hear the aborted takes and hear all the studio talk as if you were visiting those sessions—that's gonna be interesting.

Cheers

There's no need to bundle a lossless download with a physical thing. Throw it up on 7digital or HDTracks and I'll buy it.

I wonder how they could afford to get the rights for all three formats. I dont think they could piggyback them in just because they had the rights for one format (like the isolated music tracks on the Twilight Time video discs).

Here's a novel idea:

Some of us like vinyl, some of us like CDs.

Instead of whining, why don't some of you PAIR UP AND GO IN 50/50 on this release, one of you keeping the LP and one of you keeping the CD?

I happily plunked down my hard-earned dough for this release, and will just as happily sell my CD to whoever wants it.

Yeah, because it should be that much of an operation. This is a piss poor way to release anything.

Milan knows how to do it.

I was thinking about releasing the film. I thought I'd release it on Blu-ray, but in order to buy it you have to purchase along with it: A VHS tape copy, a poster, and a download from a site where only certain countries can get it because of legal reasons. What do you all think?
