No, I don’t quite got it yet. Keep going please.

Or instead of intelligent well-thought-out conversation, you could take the low road and encourage angry debate and fiery garbage gifs.

That'll solve the issues on both angels!

There’s no debate here, mate.

Moving on though, I was hoping this new era of Marvel letting their composers take some stylistic chances (Giacchino’s Dr Strange, Black Panther, Thor Ragnarok) would lead to more continuity — but apart from some nods in orchestration (Strange’s harpiscord appearing in Thor Ragnarok and Infinity War) we seem to be out of luck.

Is there any indication that MARVEL is being as INtrusive as SONY , i.e Elfman and SPIDERMAN 2?

And how was Marvel intrusive on Spidy 2?

I would imagine after several films, Marvel isn't that intrusive in some regards. It would seems to me, guessing, that any intrusion into those unspecified regards, would be on troubled productions or films they are wary about making their money back on (think something like Superboy or The Son of [fill in the blank obscure character]).

This is the first MCU I couldn't care less about. Captain Marvel for me was Mar-Vell, always will be.

Haven't heard of the composer, looking forward to listening!

He’s in it, too. Played by Jude Law.

WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(feverishly looks it up)

I don’t think that was so much Marvel or Sony as Raimi wishing he had hired Chris Young.

But with Pearlmutter out of the movie side of things now, they seem to be letting things breathe a bit.

We can debate the Tyler/Age of Ultron thing but they seem to have been in the right there to let him go.

Marvel has already had its share of switching directors, writers, composers.

I think someone here in another thread described her "Krypton" music as generic droning. A far cry from the original composer hired, Bear McCreary.

Can you blame Bear? The show is terrible.

So for those of us currently unfamiliar with Pinar or her work, what are some recommendations? I've seen the Krypton show mentioned here.

I have never heard any of Ms Toprak's music, although I heard the name mentioned around here. Congratulations to her on this assignment. I'm looking forward to hearing what she comes up with and will base my opinion on the music.

When I saw the headline for this thread, I just KNEW that some of the usual suspects would come on and make grade-school level comments regarding choosing a female composer for a female super hero movie. And I was not disappointed. Yep, there's SO MANY female super hero movies and SO MANY female composers they're just ruining it for everybody. roll eyes

No one here knows why she was hired... I strongly suspect it was because someone thought she was a promising talent that deserves a chance and maybe there was a previous relationship. That's how these things usually work...not "hey, we need a white chick, a black guy, and oh, we're short one Native-American on the crew....get me one!" Despite the fever dreams of some on this board, that's just not how it works. And if you do try to work like that, your film is probably going to be crap.

SUCCESSFUL film makers hire who they think is going to best serve their film. Period.

Thanks for removing the sexist remarks from the males who have obviously never been real friends with a woman in their life.

I’ve only noticed she is European.

There were some disgusting remarks calling to attention the composer's physical attributes rather than her obvious artistic talents. Which NEVER would have happened regarding a male composer.

Because we don't have any ATTRACTIVE male composers right now. wink

Ok. As some other people I don't know too much about Pinar Toprak.

So, if they hired her not just for "we made female-hero film, so we need only female composer/director/etc.", but based on her talent - it's fine, cool and good luck!

You should really just stop digging.

She certainly likes to write proper melodic orchestral stuff (The Lightkeepers is a nice example), so if the producers allow her sufficient free rein and don't insist on generic Marvel music, this should be good.
