I have nothing nice to say about Gia's music (in general), except to say that it's a pity Doctor Strange couldn't pluck Horner from that particular alt-universe in which he had taken up crochet for a hobby so he could take up this assignment.

Nothing nice? Wow.

Here's a comprehensive list of all the non-Giacchino themes in the score

Elfman's main theme
  • an unreleased cue {Maguire's intro}

    Elfman's Peter Parker / Responsibility theme
  • an unreleased cue {Sandman is cured}
  • OST track 19 Shield of Pain {Maguire talks with Doc Ock}

    Elfman's Green Goblin theme
  • an unreleased cue {he shows up on the bridge}
  • an unreleased cue {he smashes his helmet in the alley}
  • an unreleased cue {his monologue in Happy's apartment after Peter webs his hand}
  • OST track 18 Arc Reactor {Electro grabs the arc reactor, GG is not present anywhere in this scene}

    Elfman's Doc Ock theme
  • OST track 7 Otto Trouble {bridge attack}
  • OST track 11 Octo Gone {Peter installs the fixed chip in his back}
  • OST track 18 Arc Reator {he rips the arc reactor from Electro and installs the inhibitor instead}

    Horner's main theme
  • an unreleased cue {Garfield talks about string theory and magic being real in this universe}
  • OST track 19 Shield of Pain {Garfield talks with Electro}

    Zimmer's Electro theme
  • an unreleased cue {Electro's introduction in the woods}

    So basically there are 11 cues throughout the score with a non-Giacchino theme, and he only put 4 of them on the OST album, leaving 7 unreleased.

    Not counting any unused cues or alternates that may have been recorded as well, of course.

    Most of the European Amazon links have this art added to the listing now

    Gotta love their ineptitude that in the same image, they show a red/black jewel case and an all-clear jewel case in two different spots....

    Still nothing on Amazon USA except the Limited Edition Vinyl.

    I missed a few things earlier. Here's all the non-Giacchino themes in the score

    I agree with others this score and his score for all the Spidey Films do nothing for me.

    Elfman's I can listen to over and over.

    This thread title should have a spoiler warning tag in it. Great information in here but some pretty significant plot points are discussed in this thread without spoiler tags.

    Thanks Jason. Again, great information just didn't want anyone to have the movie spoiled by accident.

    In terms of the score I actually really did like it. All around the movie is just fantastic.

    Did they ever play the animated 60's cartoon theme in the film?

    I believe the Giacchino version of the 60's cartoon theme was used over the Marvel Studios logo for the first movie.

    Gave this a listen the other day. Yep, pretty boring. Hardly any referencing of pre-existing character themes, even though its by the same composer! The action music is dull and generic. It's just background noise for the most part. Really ticked off one of the track titles is a spoiler.

    None of the track titles are spoilers at all. I can't even think of which one you think is

    Hmm, that's weird. I don't see the spoiler track title when I googled the track list. Maybe I was listening to another Spidey score. I dunno. LOL

    I thought it was a blank obi strip, but now I'm like obi-what? I'm so confused.

    Surprised to know that Horner's theme made it to the film, but nothing from Zimmer's "Magnificent Six", given Electro's presence. Also, why stop at Electro and not bring in Gangrene Goblin and Mecha-Giamatti?

    Does Qui-Gon get a Noble End in this movie too? Guy can't catch a break.

    Its funny. I don't care for the Giacchino Spider-Man stuff. I did like some of the Vulture music but other than that its just been a big old nothing for me. He's done very good stuff in the last few years - I will sing the praises of both his scores for the Wachowski movies and his Dr Strange score - but these just didn't click.

    The first Elfman Spider-Man was the same. I think I liked the very last cue and the costume montage. Thats it. And then I loved his second one completely and utterly and had it signed by him.

    So, as always, YMMV - but this seems to be a general consensus on the issue

    Same here, I'm mostly underwhelmed by Giacchino's Spiderman scores, in the same way I was with Elfman's. I'm enjoying some select tracks on this latest No Way Home album, but overall I'm not as engaged and it seems to meander too much. I'm still a major fan of Giacchino's work, but these scores aren't ones of his that I return as often.

    Lehah, have you had a chance to listen to Nami Melumad's Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond score? Giacchino provided some of his classic MoH themes but the rest of the score, by a young woman who is typically an uncredited ghostwriter for the composer, is an absolute joy of classic adventure scoring. I highly recommend it.

    Still no sign of a physical CD for the USA

    Finally saw this film and thoroughly enjoyed it.
    It just is what it is...a pantomime, comic-book romp for kids (and kid-ults) to have fun with and pass 2+ hours in a good way. Forget all the problems in the world.
    I'm surprised its box office has been so stellar, but maybe it was just what the cinema world needed, after these past two years. It's all in the timing, I guess.
    I thought the weakest part was the score (and I enjoyed MG's previous two outings, more or less).
    I still love the theme and its catchiness and painting of the character.
    But so much sounded generic or phoned-in, whereas previous MG fantasy/adventure scores have generally stood out to me. Although there were a few powerful moments that stuck (the Exit/Lobby scene and it was fun spotting quotes from the Elfman and Horner scores).
    I haven't heard how it plays on album yet. Maybe there's an old 30-40 minute VS-style edition to be gleaned from the whole thing?

    Well. Having just played through the whole CD, I thought it functioned really well as a stand alone listen.
    It sounded way better than I remembered a lot of it, while watching the film.
    A lot less whittling than I expected, I guess.
