”What won't make me vomit?” Dutch (Original Motion Picture Score) - Alan Silvestri This under-appreciated Thanksgiving road trip comedy, written and produced by the late John Hughes, was released in theaters 30 years ago today. Just as the film Alan Silvestri’s score, which has it’s share of comical and sentimental moments, is often overlooked. “The Shelter” is a standout sympathetic track which adds to the movie’s heart. There’s a mixture of cues containing lounge jazz music, classical music, faux Renaissance-style choir, playful circus music, tense comedic moments, and poignant cues. Dutch is not only one of Silvestri’s most underrated scores, but it is also another example of his versatility as a composer mostly known for his action movies rather than his more dramatic output.

THE IMITATION GAME - music by Desplat Is it just me, or does Desplat basically re-write the same score over and over. They often sound like an unending series of unwavering ostinati. I was hoping for a least a glimpse of the joy of discovery, or perhaps the elagance and beauty of mathematics, but nope, just the repeating figures. Zilch. Anyone care to comment?
