Well, my excuse was limited funds and then the I.R.S. decided I owed them money from years ago and that they needed it more than the economy, so now I can't buy anything. I just thought it would be around for a good long while. Oh well. A score like this won't stay OOP forever, some other label will make another limited run a in a few years, no doubt.
North By Northwest going out of print?? That's ridiculous. No... it's reDONKulous!! This soundtrack is a must have for everyone! If you don't own this release then there is something seriously wrong with you. The score is one of the very very best there is. The labels could do minor tweaks to just seconds of the music and rerelease it, and I would probably buy it every time, it's THAT good.
I mean, even if you have to sell a few CDs in your collection to get the cash to buy this then do it, because chances are the 3 CDs you get rid of don't even equal the greatness that is North By Northwest. Sell Alien! Sell Jaws! Sell Conan the Barbarian! Sell... ok, don't do that...those are fantastic scores to hold onto for life, but you get my drift.
Anyone that drops in here, calls themself a film score connoisseur, cares about these scores being released on CD, remastered, restored and nicely packaged with love and respect and true appreciation for what they've meant in the lives of so many for generation after generation, and YOU STILL DON'T OWN THIS RELEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hang your head in shame you piece of.......
Damn you, damn you all to hell.
I didn't buy it, but i don't label myself a "film score connoisseur" either.

I'm pretty sure we didn't actually need to know why you didn't buy it, Justin.

To be fair to him, the tenor of this thread has evolved into an accusation of treachery to filmscorehood if you haven't bought this version of the score. Some people will react in the same way they would as if challenged by the Stasi to show their papers on an East Berlin street corner and they'd left them in their other coat
It's more than that, too. Some people seem to think just 'cause you haven't bought something in, for example, two years, well, you had you time and it's your own damn fault. People, other human beings have to budget, other human beings actually miss releases and didn't even know they came out, other human beings have lives and it's nothing for two years to pass and realize you didn't get something while you were busy living.
There's a William Shatner speech about basements in here somewhere.
Apologies if this has been discussed before, but is this Warner Archive CD the same master as the Intrada CD, or is it just a rehash of the earlier Rhino version?
Roadshowfan - sure sounds like the Warner Archive edition is the Intrada edition as I listen on Spotify. And it follows the lead of some other scores originally released on specialty labels now on Warner Archive (like Gremlins and Salem's Lot). The digital album is also exactly the same length as the Intrada.
Um, and the same tracklist in the same order.
So, not so much going out of print but available after Intrada's edition is gone as a CD-R or digital album.

Thanks for the reply, Sean. I thought it looked like the Intrada disc but didn't want to make any rash assumptions!
I don't suppose the notes (if indeed there are any) with the Warner CD-R will be as extensive as Intrada's...
I have the Laurie version both vinyl and CD, the Rhino version, and the Intrada version. Of course the latter is the best out there and highly recommended.
I too, am surprised that many fans have not picked up this version but I do understand the need to pay bills too. I was unable to get the last release of Cliffhanger and I'm still waiting for a re-release of that one.
Bernard Herrmann's score for NBNW is nothing short of brilliance. It was a soundtrack that I was so thrilled to finally have in my collection, and that it is treated as if it was made of egg shells.
I'm sure it will have a re-release again some day but, if you have the money, why wait.

That's a good point - I haven't bought any of the Warner Archive CDs because I have the originals of (I think) everything they've released. I wonder if there are liner notes at all?
I also endorse picking up the Intrada version - sounds great given the materials, great notes, wonderful cover - worth having if you are even a little so inclined.
