Read the room, dude

Here's what I'm reading.
A guy comes in and insults everyone that has an opinion that differs from his.
He shouldn't be surprised by the reaction.

Sorry if this comes across as a little hard--honestly, I am--but passive-aggressive bullies are still bullies.

Nuts-score can put me on Ignore if it's too much for him
He can stop it any time he wants--it's up to him.

And Joan, to your point on Oscar Isaac, an actor I have been fond of quite significantly for over a decade, he was again a great and reliable presence in this. Actors like this always remind me of James Mason or Gregory Peck. Men who beckon your attention by their presence alone. A perfect match for Duke Leto Atriedes.

My best friend lost his father a year ago this month, and he told me that this simple exchange between Chalamet and Isaac left his heart in his throat at the implications and how it made him feel his own father, there with him...

Paul: "What if I'm not the future of House Atreides?"

Leto: "A great man doesn't seek to lead; he is called to it. But if your answer is no, you'd still be the only thing I ever needed you to be: my son."

I haven't seen DUNE yet, but speaking of cgi, in JURASSIC PARK I actually prefer the cgi dinosaurs to the animatronic ones. But in space movies I prefer models to cgi.

The CGI in Jurassic Park is still a marvel. Though so are the animatronics. The only compromise facing the CGI in the 1993 film is that computer generated effects are rendered at such a low resolution compared to what we have the ability with today. It can look slightly muddy on a nice TV.

By design he is bland and fits an archetype.

nuts_score, that line gives me food for thought. I guess I thought the director should pull more "dramatics" from him, but I could be wrong. He certainly is confused about his role as the "one." Part 2 should be very novel for me as I haven't read the novels and don't really know what Paul will realize and how he will act.

Glad you liked Ferguson and Momoa. I think Momoa is too often thought of as just a muscled sexy guy. I thought he displayed solid acting chops in Dune and in some of his other movies. He should get more leading man roles other than just Aquaman.

The exchange between father and son did tighten my throat. I'm a wuss.

I'm so envious of you. Last Friday I was going to see The Last Duel, and it was no longer in our theaters. Damn. Yes, Damon is Damon. I do like him. Adam Driver is truly an actor who completely inhabits any role he plays. When I first say him in some earlier TV shows, I thought he was a homely guy who would not achieve big star or big actor status. I was wrong. He is a very gifted actor. Not every leading man has to have Brad Pitt looks.

It’s done now. Tomorrow’s fish and chip paper.

That's a shame. I'm to assume the box office for the film has been so abysmal that exhibitors would rather save the room for something else. A shame made bigger by the fact that it is a film which is becoming increasingly rare at this moment: a drama for adults. Sure, it's budget is likely the largest catalyst for its moment as "a failure" but all the money is there on the screen in an amazing presentation. And like many Ridley Scott epics it can be slow moving and dull, but it is still an achievement to be experienced as the cinematic experience is slowly fading away in this new climate. I hope you will enjoy it when you see it.

Okay, I'll give it a shot.
You hit me in my weak spot with the fish & chips.

Acclaimed author David Brin on both David Lynch's adaptation and the new Denis Villeneuve version. Quite a fun read. Brin has written on Frank Herbert often.

More and more I become immune to your dullard behavior. How can you process such undying commitment to subjective opinion when backing up your own mind, yet diminish the opinions of others by stating yours is the absolute?

It is quite obvious your opinion was set by your negativity and your waning bad taste. Anyone can look at the early pages of this thread to see your incessant bickering about how much you already didn't like this before you "saw it." My favorite part was when you claimed Arrival's plot was thrifted from the third season of Torchwood despite being called on your malarkey when someone revealed that Ted Chiang's short story "Story of Your Life" was published over a decade before Torchwood. You never acknowledged that because it didn't comply with your narrow realm of criticism.

You aren't a notable critic of anything. You are just a grumpy, sad internet user like the rest of us.

Well at least you finally admit you have a personal issue with me. Thus you were never interested in an honest exchange of ideas. If you told me that upfront I wouldn't have bothered interacting with you.
Edit: Regarding Torchwood I did address it. Torchwood did it first and better!

I'm personally invested or interested to talk about the movie and the Dune series with people who have perspective instead of just seeing endless repetitive responses from the same three people who have nothing of interest to say.

Ok, let’s have a diverse conversation about Dune…..

…. What did you think of the sand they used in the movie? Personally I found it a bit too granular. The way Herbert wrote about it I always kind of imagined it being like really soft like you would get on a beach in Mexico. But the way the FX people did it was kind of more a kid’s sandbox.

Also, didn’t you think it was odd that there was all that sand and nobody had built a sandcastle? Surely the Fremen would have got the odd day off from resistance fighting and built a few? I think the film makers really screwed up there.

And finally, why was nobody eating ice cream? People always eat ice cream at the beach and let’s face it Arrakis is like a giant beach. Plus it’s fucking hot there so maybe if they had eaten some ice cream they wouldn’t need those Stillsuits.

LMAO!

Ado and all the other numbskulls can post wherever they want, its true! What I'm trying to do is make them leave because now I'm personally invested or interested to talk about the movie and the Dune series with people who have perspective instead of just seeing endless repetitive responses from the same three people who have nothing of interest to say. Does that make any sense? I'm purposefully making them feel as unwelcome as they have made others feel here and elsewhere in the past.

There's no "safe spaces" on the internets.

Hi Joan!

Excellent point of conversation. I found all the actors wonderful in their roles. My favorites being Rebecca Ferguson and Jason Momoa.

Jason Momoa? The actor who acts just like Jason Momoa in every film? Now you're just tolling!

Whoa. Wait a minute. I think you mean trolling.

I brought up acting, and I stated that I thought Momoa did a fine job in this movie. nut_score also agreed and explained why.

I believe Momoa did a decent job of acting in Dune. That is my opinion. Neither one of us were trolling, just expressing an opinion. If you disagree with our opinions, that's fine with me, but we were not trolling.

Yeah trolling. wink I wasn't accusing you of trolling. But Nuts? Yes.

Sol, I know you were not accusing me of trolling. However, both nut_score and I were both expressing a similar opinion about Jason Momoa. We thought he was fine in Dune. We talked about various actors. If you didn't care for his performance, that's okay. That's fine. I just don't think that expressing an opinion about actors is trolling.

I am beginning to think that we need to define the words troll or trolling. I get a bit confused about their usage.

(But then as an oldie, I get a bit confused about a lot of things. smile)

He was excellent in the title role of that Disney cartoon about the Polynesian village.

I fall squarely in the "Deckard Is Human" camp.

Well ok. I'd say the problem with Gosling is he's just there. If he's a droid, he doesn't act like one. Or if there's duality, I sure didn't see it.

Uhhh, which cartoon was that? Did you just mix up Jason Momoa and Dwayne Johnson somehow?
