The Ramones and the Sex Pistols are awful! The Clash reign supreme!

Well yeah, obviously. The Clash is heads and shoulders above those, but I don't count The Clash as "pure" punk rock in the same way. They have more of a crossover appeal, for some reason.

As you know, they embraced Reggae, Ska, Jazz, and experimental sounds--they were always interesting, even with the "interesting failures." The Clash still maintained the anger and passion of Punk without falling into self parody.

As for the Pistols, Johnny Lydon's music became a lot more interesting when he started Public Image, Ltd.

Agreed. The inclusion of this epic song in HARDWARE was genius:

Talking of all this punk, I went to see PiL in concert a couple of weeks ago, supported by Stiff Little Fingers and The Undertones. I must confess to not being a fan of any of them, a friend had a spare ticket so I went along. Lydon dressed all in black and had very little interaction with the audience, but he seemed to enjoy himself. I only knew a few songs, but it all went down very well with a decent sized crowd.

And in complete contrast to all that, tomorrow night I'm going to see Jimmy Osmond doing his Andy Williams Tribute Show!

Some bubble gum for lunch break desert. "Simon Says" by 1910 Fruitgum Company (1967).

I never really cared much for bubble gum pop music, but the lyrics are actually pretty good.

Trivia: Shortly after the release of "Simon Says", in 1968, a novelty song was released called "(Simple) Bobby Says". It featured a vocalist who imitated Bobby Kennedy singing, well, speaking the lyrics to the tune of this song. I assume it was meant to capitalize on the popularity of both the candidate and the song. I don't remember the content of the lyrics, if they were the same as "Simon Says" or were more along the lines of one of Kennedy's speeches.
I'm not even sure if it was a national or just a local release. I was living in Tampa at the time and the pop radio station there had some rather creative DJs as I recall.
Anyone remember the novelty version?
