The Disney Algorithm? Here's how it'll work. In trying to please everyone, they'll end up pleasing no one. That's gotta be a Sachs Baron Cohen bit. Right? Right?

GENDER BIAS---the Walt Disney Company will use a digital tool to analyze scripts for gender, LGBTQIA, race and disabilities bias. The tool, GD-IQ, was developed by Geena Davis's Institute on Gender in Media. Dear lord, the rampant epic stupidity. On top of that why do you need a (probably expensive) digital tool for this? Every creative company has guidelines. Just state no white male. HETEROSEXUAL characters allowed in our scripts. Simple as that! Simplicity itself! Btw wtf is " q..I A."? Quacks...Idiots... Assholes...?

I don't understand why people are so offended by this software. From the description, its intention appears to be identifying bias that is very likely unintentional by the screenwriters. Once issues are identified by the software, it will be up to humans to decide how, if at all, the issues are to be addressed. Depending on the story, the answer may be not at all, or it may involve massive rewrites. Odds are, if it is an obvious problem to begin with, they won't need software to determine if there is a problem. Seems much ado about nothing. There has been a lack of diversity in Hollywood for a long time, and this seems to be one of the ways Disney wants to address this problem. How is this any different from hiring consultants (something I expect pretty much every studio has done at this point) to examine screenplays for the same issues?
