I'm leery of becoming invested in a TV series because if the ratings are not high enough, the series is cancelled. I wish such series would at least do a wrap up finale for the loyal followers.

2005-6 I watched Invasion, and it was cancelled after one season without a clear finale.

2118 I enjoyed The Crossing about people from the future who migrated back in time to 2118. Season 2 never materialized, and there was no finale.

I suppose one could argue that Lost didn't have a "proper" finale.

Yes, their first reunion movie took care of everything. But it wasn't a finale, because then they did a couple more movies IIRC.

Reaper. The show ended with a cliffhanger that placed pretty much all of the leads in a terrible position. If the show had been renewed, they would presumably have gotten out of those circumstances and perhaps given a satisfying conclusion to the various storylines. Sadly, that was not to be, and we got an ending that did not at all match the tone of the show.

- Hogan's Heroes. Wanted to see a final episode with a Sherman tank busting through the main gate with it's pea shooter right at Klink's monocle....

- The short lived "Flash Forward".

I was just getting into the series EARTH 2 (which also had great music by David Bergeaud) when the plug just got pulled!! (B@stards).

Also...LOST.

Try and find the ancient LOST thread in which Ron Pulliam and a few others swear up, down, and sideways that the finale to LOST was indeed "satisfying." Hard denial, circa whenever it was that crap show ended.

What about HEROES? Wasn't that also crap?

Like I said most shows have horrible finals even when they have finals.

Two excellent BBC AMERCIA shows
Copper
The Hour

BOTH had cliffhangers at the end of their second and last season!

Would Star Trek: TOS count? Star Trek: TAS (end of five-year mission potential not realized there).

The Prisoner, as it seemed his experience "looped."

The shows affected by the so-called "rural purge" of 1971: The Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres for sure.

The Time Tunnel, Space: 1999 (third series was reportedly planned), Land of the Giants, Get Smart, I Spy, The Man From U.N.C.L.E, The Wild Wild West, The Fantastic Journey, Bewitched, Batman, Gunsmoke, Secret Agent/Danger Man (McGoohan pulling the plug after the two 'Drake in Japan' color episodes), The Munsters, Car 54, Where Are You?, Mr. Lucky.

Did Bonanza have a finale episode?

I was going to say LOST but it technically doesn't qualify because it had a finale, albeit a horribly disappointing one.

I think my vote goes to Firefly.

No, there's gotta be another series of LOST still to come.
You know, that will explain that underground ancient wheel that turns and transports you to the middle of the desert...AND the big statues in the past, that Richard (who never aged) happened upon from his ship...AND those brothers battling it out by that glowing well spring of life...AND...

"Surface". Ended on a big cliffhanger. Anyone remember that stinker?

I seem to remember the 1990's series La Femme Nikita ended but was later brought back for a few episodes to tie up some loose ends. I really liked Peta Wilson in that show.

I liked Surface and enjoyed the plot twists. Don't forget Zoo and the Whispers. Also Dynasty, Thirty Something, and Family.
