Farscape ended on a cliffhanger, though at least one TV movie was made after the series was cancelled to provide some closure so I’m not sure that counts.

Every TV series before...? What was the first show to end with a finale? Was it M*A*S*H? Traditionally, a canceled show didn't get "picked up" for another season, only after the final season was in the can, so it was too late to film an ending. Also, they generally wouldn't want to do a finale, because the series was strictly episodic, and an ending might turn off syndication viewers. You don't want to tell your audience that it's wrapped up and they can go now. The worst series finale ever was XENA: WARRIOR PRINCESS. It put such a bad feeling on the show that I didn't even want to see the reruns. Another bad finale was STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE.

I wasn't even a huge fan of the show and I still thought it was an insulting way to end the series. Yeah. The ENT cast was hurt and insulted by it, and the aging TNG actors didn't bring in any special magic, so the ENT audience wasn't well-served either. It was just a misfire all around.

The biggest one for me as a kid and probably the most obvious was Planet of the Apes.

Every TV series before...? What was the first show to end with a finale? Was it M*A*S*H. Aw, man Zap, you disappoint me...The Fugitive had the most famous finale for decades. This list would be really long if we named every series that didn't have a proper finale. Those that come to mind for me are... All of them in which the central premise was getting home (Lost in Spase, The Time Tunnel, Land of the Giants, Otherworld, Planet of the Apes, The Fantastic Journey) or a quest (original BSG, The Master) or just resolving their circumstance (Space:1999, The Immortal, Branded, Run For Your Life, Man in a Suitcase, The Incredible Hulk, The Invaders). The worst are the cliffhangers. Those piss me off because most often the producers know their series is on the edge. So, shows like Alphas, V (original and remake), Nowhere Man, The Fugitive (2000-2001), Crime Story, and so many more. Rarely does a show get a wrap up TV movie, but Farscape did (I just haven't gotten to it yet) as did Dynasty. Only one series I was devoted to got a perfect finale: that was Babylon 5. Mostly because JMS wrote the damned thing when he conceived the series. Damned episode brought me to tears.
