So I've started watching THE OA (surprised no one has mentioned that before). So far, it kinda comes off as a secondhand THE LEFTOVERS, but it's not a bad show. Bit of a slow burn.

Is this the one set in San Francisco?

Is it really sci-fi or just a slightly different alternate universe?

Two episodes into the second season. It's San Francisco alright. Great to see all those places I walked a few years ago. It's an alternate universe (Joe Biden is president rather than Obama; this is 2016, before the mayhem), but it's less about that and more about the characters trying to escape the clutches of Jason Isaacs's character. Not much in terms of hard sci fi yet.

I binged the new Netflix zombie series BLACK SUMMER in two nights. Excellent show! Has the sheer, raw energy of Boyle's 28 HOURS LATER; a no-nonsense approach and a great sense of "being there" while the apocalypse unfolds -- especially through the gorgeous, swirling long takes and camera presence. I sincerely hope they get to make a season 2. I can't believe it's made by the same people who did the goofball show Z NATION; this is the opposite of that.

I was wondering about watching this. I'll give it a go now. But do you need to have seen Z Nation to watch this?

Absolutey not. They really have nothing to do with each other. And completely different styles. BLACK SUMMER is far superior, even though I got a kick out of the 'B movie', schlocky humour aspect of Z NATION (at least for the first couple of seasons).

CASTLE ROCK is awful. One disc is all I watched.

Tried the first two episodes of Black Summer and was hooked.

I tried...Lord, I tried...to enjoy Project Blue Book, but it was just too hokey. Good ideas but it was clumsy and awkward, after 3 episodes had to just give up

I rather enjoyed it up to the last two or three episodes then it just seemed they had no idea what they were doing all along and had been winging it all the way, and were hoping you didn't notice.

Had they kept the focus on the mysterious prisoner It might have worked.

I liked CASTLE ROCK, and remember being disappointed when it was cancelled, but I have few actual memories of it. The drawback of 'jamming' so much, and so many similarly-themed TV shows, into such a short timeframe, I guess.
