Oh! So you're saying that were just brainless people who don't know when to get out of the rain?

Who mentioned the rain in the height of summer? And meant small brains, not no brains.

Yeah, but you have those ten gallon hats to protect you from the sun. I just couldn't live in a hot country like that. England is usually mild, not too hot & not too cold, which means that when it's scorching a lot of things come to a halt, & the same when it snows. Anyway, it's probably nigh impossible to buy a portable air condition unit right now, but I will buy one (or two) before next summer.

The problem in the U.K., similar to other island nations near a larger land mass, is that the weather doesn't normally stay consistent enough to acclimatize to it. Ergo, when it's hot here it's normally only for a few days, much the same with cold. Neither is around long enough for the population to get used to them.

Spot on. And tomorrow is supposedly going to be significantly cooler.

Wow, it started raining half an hour ago, & a bit of a breeze. I'm sitting here with my front open, it still very warm, but nothing like it was.

Scorching. Had to knock off posting around 11.45 because it was too hot. We were told if it reaches 35° then we had to return to the office. Something to do with postmen melting at that temp!

It's true. Those British postmen complain that it's too hot when it's only 35 degrees, which for me is a bit freezing cold. However, somewhere I think there's an exaggeration going on. Do Brits really complain about the heat when it's near freezing? Brits ARE prone to porky pies. I know, I'm one of them.

But to give the other side their share of my stick, I believe that the "Wacko" Texas dudes are erring on the side of exaggeration too. "It's been over 100 degrees for over 20 days", said one. Now, I'm no scientist, but that temperature seems to me to be "over" the boiling point of water. I think that's too hot to exist, especially for "over 20 days". But as I say, I ain't no Eisenstein.

We have an office in Phoenix and it's regularly over 100 for days in row out there. Boling water? No but frying eggs.

Here in Houston we teeter back and forth between 100F, but one thing is constant: the oppressive humidity. I've lived here since 1997 and I think this is the hottest summer I've experienced here. It started like this in May.

What troubles me most is learning that the water temperature in the Gulf of Mexico is >90F to a depth of 200 ft. When tropical storms arrive in the Gulf regularly as fall approaches, the amount of energy this represents for storm intensification is very sobering. Hurricane season this year could be a *itch.

I live in Ontario. There has always been the odd heatwave in the summer. The current summer doesn't strike me as being any hotter than previous summers.

I'll be in Montreal in a month. Hope your luck holds out.

A lot cooler. More bearable. Though I won't be wearing my leopard print thong today.

It’s barely stopped raining here since they announced it had been the driest summer on record.
