These are in films too, but i just saw an episode of a TV show called Manifest that ha about 5 things wrong inside of five minutes. It had a nightclub on fire that had several things wrong with it: the nightclub didn't look like a nightclub, it looked like it was set-designed by people who had never seen one; the nightclub had about 30 people in it, the number multiplied into 3 times the amount when they were running out of the building after it went on fire; the fire was smoky but everyone was breathing fine for the most part; a security door was locked, but two men shouldered it down; everyone stood by in an orderly fashion and there wasn't a crush; best of all was the exterior shot - they wanted a bit of busyness in the shot, but if you watched it, seven firefighters ran into the burning building, none with hoses, none with breathing apparatus, but five had axes, one had a torch and one had a long stick, then two cops run into the building holding nothing, then some of the axe-wielding firemen run out. It was comical.

In most hero vs. bad guy fights involving a blade, the hero gets slashed - enough for a sliced shirt and a line of red underneath, but not enough for any real damage to musculature or organs. I've seen this 3 times just in the past 2 weeks - Total Recall, True Lies, either Escape from New York or L.A.

A long stick is all you need to fight the deadliest of fires.

I know, i was trying to figure out what it was from the firefighters arsenal. A metre ruler for measuring the fire?

When police, FBI, etc turn up outside a suspect's apartment, house, farmhouse, whatever, they always slam their car doors when they get out...and then move stealthily. They never leave them open or shut them silently, like any sensible person would as to not alert the suspect. I hear my neighbour's car doors slamming 5 doors away so any suspect on the run would have plenty time to climb out the rear window and escape.
This door-slamming blunder is in so many films and cop shows.

Not to mention all of the screeching tires of the cars arriving at the location! If they really wanted to catch a suspect completely unawares, they'd stop their cars at least a block away and proceed carefully towards the house/apartment the criminal was hiding in on foot.

And sirens. Don’t forget sirens.

And why do they always tell someone to "go around and cover the back"? Many homes and businesses have side exits as well. Just once, I'd like to hear: "Dan, you take the side door. Linda, make sure he doesn't exit from the porch. Carl, take Lenny and cover the basement slider. Jessica and Barney, knock on the front door. I'll be in the squad car checking the Lakers score..."

Mysterious thief/ninja/assassin dressed in all black wearing a ski mask gets caught after a fight or chase.
The protagonist (usually male) rips off the mask to reveal... a female.

This is NEVER done when its a guy fighting a guy. So if they're going to rip off the mask you know its going to be *SHOCKER* a female!

And one of 2 things then occurs, it's either obviously a woman by her physicality/size and movements so we knew it was a woman from the start or obviously a male in the concealed clothing UNTIL the mask comes off. An obvious variation of this is in the move "To Live and Die in L.A." where Willem Defoe's character starts kissing what is obviously a man and when they reveal to the face, it is now a woman.

Also when a movie carefully discusses an off-screen character in vague generalities so we assume they'll be one gender/ethnicity, only to have them revealed as the opposite when they finally appear. Classic example: "Dr. Schneider" in Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade.

This is one of the cases where "The naked gun 2 1/2" sets things right:

t= 0:05

t=1:38

Oh yes, the feminist equation! Usually in a dated time period where a female wouldn't historically be in a particular field of study, employment or postilion of power.

Yep, quick nod to SpringShield.

Speaking of names. In films, don't you just hate it when characters - especially those in police departments - have obviously ethnic names:

"O'Reilly, take Officers Rodriguez and Chang and see if you can track down that lowlife Vinnie. Start with the strip club, but he might be at his ma's pizza joint."

(And be sure to have only one person from each ethnicity, so we won't get confused between, heaven forbid, two Hispanic guys or two Asian guys.)

Yeah, you never see an Asian guy with the first name "Fred", or whatever, even though Asian people have "Americanized" names all the time.

Well, in 1979 Dr. Goodhead would qualify for 2/3 rds and still James walks straight into it.

whenever there is a rifle salute at a soldier's funeral, there is always one timid person,
usually a school teacher type, that is startled at the shots. Just once I would like to see
someone stick their fingers in their ears like that kid in North by Northwest when Cary Grant is shot.

To be fair, this is true to life. I knew a guy who used to laugh at the police for using sirens as they arrived at the houses he was burgling.
