I'm on a bit of a Williams kick. I've also got some noticeable gaps in my meager Williams selection. Since I'm not rich by any means, I'm looking to get FSM members' top 5 scores by Williams that I don't have. I'll tally 'em up and work from there.

Here's what I've got:

A.I. (original album)
Black Sunday
Close Encounters (both albums)
E.T. (original & 2002 albums)
Heartbeeps
Home Alone
Hook (original album)
Images
Indiana Jones (Concord; DCC & Concord for Raiders)
Jane Eyre
Jaws (Intrada)
Jaws 2 (Intrada)
Jurassic Park (original & LLL)
Lost in Space (LLL box)
The Lost World (both albums)
Memoirs of a Geisha
Star Wars I - VII (incl. anthology and S.E.)
Superman (FSM set)
The Witches of Eastwick

Thanks in advance!

Could you indicate your favorites among those so I know what style to lean towards? For example, if like me you adore Jane Eyre, I'd highly recommend Dracula which is similarly dark/gothic/romantic. If like me you adore Black Sunday, I'd highly recommend Family Plot, since it has similar drive in its action/suspense cues.

Yes, I echo this. We need some parameters to work from. Otherwise, the suggestions in this thread will soon list every single score John Williams ever did that is not on your list, and then you're no closer. People's preferences are so different, after all.

I have a penchant for his 1970's scores:

I recommend the following:
Missouri Breaks
Dracula
Towering Inferno
The Fury
1941

One extra
Midway

"War of the Worlds"
"Earthquake"
"The Poseidon Adventure"
"Schindler's List"
"J.F.K."

Also, the LLL release of "Empire of the Sun" is perfection as are all the Williams/Spielberg La-La Land Records CD projects.

Excellent idea! My favorites would have to be A.I. (I keep checking LLL to see if theirs is back in stock), The Empire Strikes Back, Close Encounters, Temple of Doom, and... it's so hard to choose... E.T.

Tracks like "Where Dreams Are Born," "E.T. and Me," "Leaving Home," "Over the Moon," and "Across the Stars" are some of my favorites.

I love what I've heard of Dracula, but it seems to be fairly expensive on the secondary market.

I also somehow managed to skip right over The Witches of Eastwick when I put up my list. I'll have to remedy that in my initial post. I've also got a copy of War of the Worlds on the way. I caught the last act on TV the other day and had to have it.

Thanks to everyone who's posted so far. smile

Surprising more people haven't recommended his Harry Potter work. It's richly thematic and quite popular outside of soundtrack circles.

Also, Home Alone 2 has some absolutely fabulous new themes and concert pieces.

So I guess I'll go with

Harry Potter 1-3
Home Alone 2
Dracula
1941
The Fury

I'd add the Americana trilogy of:

The Reivers
The Cowboys
The Missouri Breaks

And a couple of very different scores

The Eiger Sanction (Spy thriller with baroque twists)
Minority Report (if only for Anderton's Great Escape)

By merest chance, I listened to Jane Eyre, Dracula and the album program of The Fury yesterday. Just a sublime experience and one every John Williams 1970's-era fan should be able to enjoy.

I see you are already a third of the way there. Fury is still available from LLL. And there are copies of Dracula on Amazon for under $40, so not too dire even if he does miraculously rise again sometime soon (or not so soon).

Just two, I know, but they are the right two. (I'd add Eiger Sanction, but I think it's too pricey for what it's worth right now.)
